You can't change team. Full stop. No street cred whatsoever once you've changed team, unless you're under 7. Even then, it's preferable to be under five.

Having a generation (or 2) before you support a team and not even give you chance to follow someone else is a treat.

All of our kids (hopefully) because of our passion have the same thing to pass onto thier children.

And the gene pool shrinks once again thus explaining a great many things. My old Man barracks for Port so I promptly followed the Redlegs. My son follows the Bloods because we used to live right next to Richmond Oval but for some strange reason he has decided to follow the Demons!

Yeah I have to admit I'm pretty excited about the Crows next season. As long as John Reid is still there I'll be sleeping soundly.

I am giving him a chance to out himself and believe me there will be no jumping back on any band wagon !!!
It is what it is !!!

Picked????...thats the whole point. If you followed a team pre-crows there is no decision to be made in my opinion.Anything else is simply bandwaggoning. It's not about picking a choice.A supporter of an existing team who then goes for a new one new year absolutley amazes me to this day.

RW the point you miss here is that a lot of people didn't have a favourite VFL team. We followed the SANFL passionately and happily watched the Sunday VFL footy replays and the VFL GF just as something to watch without getting too worked up about it. Why get attached to a team in another state and comp? Especially when that comp was busy raping and pillaging the local comp we all loved. Did you have a WAFL team you followed closely?

You assume all Crows supporters jumped off another team which just isn't true in all cases. I respect that in your case, you supported the Hawks so no reason to change. But a lot of us were waiting for an AFL team to embrace and the SANFL's representative side made up of SANFL players we followed was an easy decision.

Bleu Boy,
I can think of nothing worse than changing teams.

I have supported North Adelaide my whole life.

Jumping from Norwood to North is pretty bad. ;)
It's all the SANFL's fault.

I never followed a VFL team and had no interest in an Alternative Football League until the Crows were formed. And even then I resented Port Adelaide for their attempt to betray the SANFL and join the VFL - I was all for throwing them out of the SANFL completely.

When the SANFL decided to go ahead with an AFL team I was happy to follow the composite team which was for all South Australians not just the treacherous Portites. Port supporters of course trotted out the "Glenelg Crows" cry because, in their arrogance, they wanted an all Port team, or a Port controlled team, to be SA's representatives.

The Crows were the Adelaide team and were, and still are, entitled to the name. Through another injustice, Port were rewarded for their treachery and given the second licence instead of a more deserving team like Norwood.

However, that is all history. I accept the separation of the Power from the Port Adelaide Magpies, and now support them to some extent as my second team, so long as they don't go on to much about the link to the awful "maggies" themselves.

In the SANFL I nominally followed Sturt then Glenelg then Torrens as a child - Sturt because my older sister disliked blue, then Glenelg because I liked the palindrome, and Torrens under the influence of boys I went to primary school with. But my sister started taking me to Norwood matches with her and I saw the light!
EPIGENETICS - Lamarck was right!

Ease up mate.............I did write "if" didn't I?(I did not miss the point at all.I stand by my comment about hearing someone say they used to follow someone then changed the very next year)
Yes I follow Claremont
I got attatched to another team in another comp because I happen to come from a football loving family who followed the VFL.
I dont believe in the raped and pillaged line .When one of our guys went to play in the premier competition it created even more interest for me.The opportunities opened up to the guys who went interstate were often huge and a real leg up in life for many of them and I never begrudged them leaving for a second .I actually took it as a compliment to the SANFL and lets not forget I think the transfer fee system was in operation back then also.

I actually have to put my hand up as a "ship jumper" ... Followed Collingwood throughout the 80's after my idol Michael Taylor joined them, and then not too long after he wound up, Kelly and Francis made the move over there.

Kept a soft spot for them, almost to the point of following two teams, when the Crows joined ... My interest in the Crows was for the same reason, wanting to follow the Norwood boys at AFL level.

Following the Crows was obviously the easier of the two as they played here, and I could get to the games around my own footy committments ... Nowadays I go to most Crows and Power games at AAMI because it's become a social outing for most in my circle of mates (Usually give my tickets up and sit in bar with a few mates).

Once I finished up playing it was back to fulltime SANFL attendance. which dominates my footy interest.

Watching AFL these days I'm almost a neutral, just following any game for entertainment value, and often end up riding* the team I used in my tipping comps.
