I'm getting sick of all these pop up Geelong fans. I supported them when I was five before the Crows came in but I'm a long way from being a know it all just because a team I supported finally won a premiership.

You are setting yourself up for a fall REB. Geelong have won one premiership and done bugger all else. They are not even as good as the Crows were in 2006 before injuries hit.

How you can say the Cats have won more premierships than Hawthorn is beyond me. I hope you're a whipper snapper REB so you won't have arthritic fingers and can still type by the time they win again or you may have to find another bandwagon to jump on.

On the original theme of the post;
I have one son who I managed to get on board with the Cats from the moment he liked footy.
I have a second son who has really impressed his dad by being a committed Eagles supporter just about since the day he arrived.

The West Coast renewal package, of what a kid gets, absolutely smacks the Geelong package. Multiple posters, flag, hat, stickers, autograph book, signed birthday card from player etc etc.

Eagles do do a great job in this area, presumably since they have some pretty fair resources.

As to the ongoing Geelong v Hawthorn v Adelaide debate happening here, I shall elect to stand on the apron, hoping not to be tagged in. (but Go Cats)

Oh Please

"Injuries Hit" you mean before WCE demolished you at Subiaco when you thought you had top spot and the premiership wrapped up.

LMAO. You call me a pop up Geelong fan and then you wonder how I can say we've won more flags than Hawthorn. That should have given you half a clue that I know a thing or two about my club's history. Geelong have now won seven AFL/VFL premierships and seven VFA premierships. This was when the VFA were the premier league in Victoria before the formation of the VFL in 1897, of which Geelong was a foundation member. Before you again go off half co_cked I admitted in my reply to Rodney that we had two less AFL/VFL flags but the point of my post that you so obviously missed is that Geelong have a hell of a lot to be proud of and that Hawthorn supporters tend to be very selective when they pump up their club and compare it to others.

Why do you think that is...

well, before 1961 Hawthorn were the joke of the competition. Two winless years, plenty of spoons, to lose to Hawthorn was akin to losing to Fitzroy or Richmond of today. You will never see a Hawks fan prepared to talk about this era. Be as selective as you like but it is always better to talk about a team's history in it's entirety.

Now, I don't pretend to be a know all but what I posted was all FACTS Andrew. Nothing I posted is inaccurate there. Never did pretend to know it all, where did I say that again?? For you to call me a bandwagoner is insulting in the extreme. I have bled Blue and White since before the Ablett era. You're doing a pretty good impersonation of a know all yourself, but except for posting facts you have posted misguided opinion. If you don't know the history of my great club, try READING instead of posting insulting drivel.

Not even as good as the Crows of 2006? Hello? They didn't even win the **** grand final in 2005 you king sized doofus. They got beaten at home by St Kilda because they didn't respect Robert Harvey and he tore them a new one. You pay out Geelong because we only won one premiership but that is one more than Neil Craig has ever won at Norwood or Adelaide.

Geelong will win another premiership with this group. I am no whippersnapper but I don't think I'll be getting all that much older before the cup comes to Cat Park again. I'd rather be a loyal Cat fan that stayed with his club than a 'Pop Up' Adelaide Crows fan - and yet you have the colossal gall to call ME the bandwagonner!

Andy, you're my bitch. Hope you come back for more but you better start posting some bloody facts before calling me a know all. Now, back in your box and shove that 'pop up' line because you've worn it out already. I'm not a know all mate, I'm a know something. You should try it sometime.

regards,

REB

Premierships before 1897 ... CONTEMPORISE MAN. Geelong aren't that good, they got lucky and pumped a couple of teams that played poorly in the finals. I bet visions of choking were coming back when Collingwood got close.

Geelong are nowhere near good enough to go back to back, wait till someone gets injured and 2008 will be spent sooking.

How does supporting a South Australian team because I'm South Australian make me a band wagon jumper? The only reason I used to support Geelong was because it was the closest team to SA.

It's easy to brag when your team has won, so I understand while you're making the most of it while you can.

Ha ha. Pay that one. It's still facts though.

Andy #24 wrote:Geelong aren't that good, they got lucky and pumped a couple of teams that played poorly in the finals.

Who was better? None again, that's a fact. 'Geelong aren't that good' that's just your opinion. If we are no good how come we beat you twice this season? Also geniear5e, we did not allow teams to play well against us. As if Adelaide didn't lucky with their flags. Playing the second ranked team at home in 97 and a granny against a team with no ruckman, then the next year they finished 5th, got belted and got another crack. What crap. Your mob hasn't won a flag with the current finals (i.e. 'real') format.

Andy #24 wrote: I bet visions of choking were coming back when Collingwood got close.

For the fans yes, for the players no, we won the game easing up a bit in the end. Not surprising you mention choking in a prelim final...it's all you know. You can't bring out the ol chokers line when we won the bloody game..try again.

Andy #24 wrote:Geelong are nowhere near good enough to go back to back, wait till someone gets injured and 2008 will be spent sooking.

More opinion, and opinion I am quite within my rights to disagree with. Injuries can derail a premiership defence but we've been underperfoming for years and now have a young group that has learnt how to win a flag. Maybe the Cats won't go back to back, but they will win another premiership with this group. Bookmark this post my good man.

Because this is a national competition sunshine and you changed teams. Personally I don't have an issue with this until you come out and call me a bandwagonner. I am South Australian also but I don't change teams that's why I got pissed off with your comments.

How the **** would you know? Your mob hasn't won a flag since you were in primary school. Mate last year I was bragging about winning a quarter LOL. It's called barracking for your team, something that the some Franchaise supporters know little of.

run along....

Fair go Andy. REB is a Geelong and Norwood supporter. If he doesn't count premierships before 1897 he'd be a bit light on

Exactly what stage does "this group" become a different group? Serious question. What defines the current group? Is it a coach, particular player or players? If it's a group of players how many have to remain for it to still be "this group"?

LOL. Especially with the Legs!

By 'this group' what I am saying is the next two or three years. I think we can win another, I hope we can win more. At the end of the next three seasons the current litter will have a few departures. If we get the salary cap right, maybe not as many as we think. The Lions had a very powerful period from 1999-2005. If our period began in 2004 then the window is open for a few more years.

I would have enjoyed reading your posts last year more than all the gloating rubbish this year. Maybe you have supported Geelong for a while but it's hard to distinguish all the crap written by real supporters and bandwagonners and I'm just sick of hearing about how great a side that can thrash Port is.

The Crows were the most underperforming team of the last decade. Could beat anyone when they played well over that period but were too inconsistent.

Interesting that you draw a distinction between flags before and after the finals system changed but paste over the crack between VFL and VFA.

Righto..I'm batting for REB.

Andy FFS, stop embarrassing yourself. Geelong were that good, so good in fact I'd easily compare them to two other great premiership teams in the modern era Carlton (whom I support) 1995, and Essendon 2000.
In fact put those three sides together and it'd be mighty hard to see Geelong LOSING. Trust me I do not ever praise other teams without pain.
Every side has ups and downs. Carlton as you ALL know has been down the past 5 years. I can handle that as the 100 odd years before that were intermingled with sucess. I'll take the three spoons since 1864 (which Geelong have five of !!).

Geelong has no fear of losing to Collingwood in that final, similar to Carlton's close shave with Brisbane in 95, needed that win to prove they could do it, and the following weeks showed just how it was meant to be done.

The Geelong supporters on this forum (Wedgie, Strawb, Rog & REB) to name a few have been nothing but humble in the way they have celebrated a flag. If I thought they were being big headed dickheads I'd say something, but their comments have been factual and proven.

And IMO, Geelong can go again...depth is there as they are the VLF champs also...

Cheers

What a joke, humble my arse. Look at their signatures, avatars and some posts.

Great sides have eras like the Hawks in the 80's Kanga's in the 90's and Brisbane recently. Sometimes a team gets lucky and it all comes together one year. Lets see if the Cats can do it again.
