the AFC needs to provide scope for it's younger players.

In Torney's case, we now have Symes, Gallman and Douglas who can play that role

The club needs to move forward with it's list....

Since when has Douglas been a back flanker? Maybe in junior footy but nothing has suggested he's capable of playing that role at the top level. As for Gallman, how he was upgraded is beyond me.

Only 17 players remain from the list Craigy inherited from Gary Ayres

This is the biggest turnover in 1 season:

2004: 5
2005: 7
2006: 5
2007: 9

Tough calls being made - good to see the club taking a longer term view

While we are at it - we should congratulate 3 of the delisted players in particular for long-term contribution to the team - Ian Perrie, Jason Torney & Matty Bode =D>

good to see the crows upgrade young walker from broken hill i think this lad was part of the nsw afl deal where they get a crack at a 17 year old without having to draft him . from all reports is going to go places and is a kkp player and stared in the finals in broken hill at chf .this is a win for the club as he surley would have been drafted by someone ..well done 8) 8)

Torney is the type of player that every club needs.

Will welcome him back with open arms down at Noarlunga if he chooses to take that path.

In other delistings, 2 former SA based players got the chop from StK yesterday. Barry Brooks and Fergus Watts. StK gave up a lot to get them :?
SAFC- 60 years...
StKFC- 58 years..

Gone are Torney, Bode, Perrie, Hinge, Pfeiffer, Meesen, Hudson, Mattner and captain Mark Ricciuto.

The club have already gained four players Symes, Moran, Gallman and Walker.

This gives us five picks in the national draft next month – 10, 27, 30, 38 and 59.

I can't recall the club being any better positioned for a national draft

Last year there was obvious depth in the draft, after about 25 theres not as much in the pot, My question is Torney would for one more year or two may have been better than a 30,39 & 59. Torney is much better than jericho who should buy a lotto ticket.

Ask hudson & Pfieffer what they think of the decision to keep jericho

Its about time John Reid got delisted, been there way too long. The Crows history in trade week over the years has been appalling. As for Torney, once the dust has settled, Jars will be in contact.

OK, lets keep Torney and finish 8th or 9th next year, and starve young players of an opportunity, than this time next year, we will ALL be sitting here asking why we missed the finals, why did we lose Douglas back to melbourne, what do we do with our aging list

some of these decisions are not a year by year basis, the Club obvious believe, with or without Torney our defence is strong enough, most importantly, we have players like Douglas and Symes that will need to be given opportunities

Torney has his strengths as a player, his courage and work ethic is unquestionable, however, the club needs to make some long term decision on the list now

All credit to Torney on his career, however, the crows this year squeezed the lemon for the last time, it is time to make the tough calls now

On John Reid

Why is John copping the heat on these calls

The AFC list management team makes these calls, JR is part of the team, so is Craigy, Alan Stewart, all the assistants and Triggy...

Port Adelaide made the same call on Brett Montgomery couple years ago, and Williams went for the young guys, this year showed it was the right decision.... Adelaide are obviously following the same path

SD, whilst I agree with the majority of your posts, I can't feel that Adelaide are a year too late in playing the kids. Douglas is a good footballer, yet I haven't see him play any type of defensive role whilst he has been at Glenelg. Plays in the middle or in the forward line.
Big call to see him slot back there somewhere.
The Torney call is a fair one, but IMO I would've let go of Burton before him, and slotted Douggie straight into his spot.
McLeod, Burton, Edwards, Goodwin, Bassett, Biglands, Doughty & Welsh all above 28 years of age, going to have to be some tougher calls in the next year or too...
The joy of being on the hill drinking beer cannot be understated

totally agree with your thoughts on Torney... he has been a very consistent player for the club, however, the club needs to ask the following question...

do we have a younger player capable of playing that role.....

the club can either stick Torney on a HB flanlk for another season, or give Symes, Douglas, Gallman an opportunity to develop their football within an experience defence that will consist of Macca, Rutten, Bassett and maybe Massie......

FFS, everyone Praises Collingwood for playing their younger players, I have been craving for Adelaide to take this path....

Hart was the first tough decision, Torney was next, their will be more next year

and port made the grand final by playing the younger players also........yes, i know they got hammered, but they were rebuilding!

Huddo couldn't give a toss .... assume you mean Hinge?

As for Fergus Watts that's ironic because the 17th pick we got for him was used to draft ..... guess who ...... Pfeiffer!

Crows

Remember this is the club that are so strong could not find a place for Jesse Aish under the father and son rule, Interesting that!!!!, Aish played against Westies this year on all occasions and did damage to us every time. I saw a few years of Luke Jericho first hand and his heart has to be questioned, but then again John Reid and co know BEST

I wondered why they had kept Jericho too - looks promising at times but does not deliver. Patchy like Welsh but Welsh is better at his best.
