Mattner likely to join Swans

mate, my view, the swans play a very similar style to adelaide, their forwards in Hall and O'Keefe push up the ground to help out..... their midfield also push back in numbers

the other issue for Marty, he lacks awareness...... he will have even less space to work in at the SCG, so he will need to improve that sapect of his game

Marty's got a ways to go IMO and if he finds his niche at the Swans then good luck to him I say. He's a very popular player with the fans which is causing a stir.

79 games in 6 seasons - while promising a lot has not quite delivered to his potential for us IMO - whether that be from his own short-comings or lack of opportunites well we'll find out in the next 3 years.

Crows fans we wanted trades now we have one

On 5AA tonight they talked about him signing a 3 year contract with Sydney but then couldn't tell us what the Crows got for him so I question if its all finished. Apparently the Crows want the no 11 pick but Roos has said its untouchable. No mention of this Doyle rumour so dunno ......

I dont think so but the way Paul Roos is quoted, you'd think it just needs to be signed off by the AFL

I would be happy with pick #28 and Grundy or Schmidt would be some cream

I think we'd be lucky with just one of the three options!

Exactly right! Mattner thrives on an attacking game and he will love it with the Swans! Mattner playing HB at the Crows is a terrible fit as we play such a defensive game and when he looks up he has nothing to kick it to so he runs himself into a wall.

sydney-dog, it is HIGHLY UNLIKELY pick 28 will get us a player of Mattner’s ilk.

Pick 28? May as well have swapped him for a slab of Tooheys.
It's all the SANFL's fault.

The Crows have to chase Grundy as part of this deal or don't bother IMO.

how is adelaide the worst traders?, because we have not actively traded in recent years.

I wish people look at the facts, lets look at the WB, they gave up plenty for McDougall and Aka, how did these blokes perform... what about what Freo gave up for Tarrant and Solomon, how did these guys perform.....

Can someone actually name some clubs that are good traders and name a club that has delievered success on the back of a successful trade period, PLEASE, can someone actually produce some facts rather than myths

Before people get carried away on what the crows should ask for in return for Meesen and Hudson, lets also remember that both WB and Melb have early pre-season picks, so Adelaide are not in the position of strength for these negotiations... their is a risk on negotiating too hard and getting nothing in return, so the club is damed if the do and damed if they don't

Adelaide have had it's fair of success stories from the trade periods, D Jarman, T Bond, S Welsh, J Torney, S Thompson, N Bassett, K Massie, S Stevens, P Caven, B James, K Koster, M Stevens, C Rintoul, M Robran and M Clarke.... , and I can't recall to many ex Crows players running around that has hurt the club in return

at least 7 premiership players in that lot

I just get a little frustrated at people making comments based on perception and not putting it in context to the rest of the competition.

in regards to Mattner, how has craigy ruined him, don't give me the crap about playing him HB, because Roos has already said, he is targeting Mattner as a HB to release Malceski in to the midfield....

Mattner needs to take responsibility for his own form, look at the Geelong players that play HB, they play like midfielders, only Mattner can control his skill and decision making

I don't think Freo have done to badly out of Tarrant and Solomon syd but the Bullies trades didn't work out too well. You are quite right about the success steming from an effective trading period but I could argue that Geelong has done quite well out of some trades this decade some forced, some not.

Brad Ottens for Brent Maloney (Draft picks for Richmond = Pattison and Myer)
Cameron Mooney for Leigh Colbert (Kangaroos)
(Draft pick = Corey Enright) for Micheal Mansfield (Carlton)

Not bad if I do say so myself.

Boyle is horribly overrated. Struggles to kick goals even when the best defenders are on Buddy and Roughead.

As a crows and Mattner fan, i'm dissappointed to see him go.
His work ethic, run, chasing, tackling and sublime over-head markng skills were trademarks of his game.
Agree with sydney-dog.
With a forward line to go long to, he will be very valuable.
With all those draft picks, i sure hope the crows can secure greenwood from Port Magpies.
What a player!

Marty has to take responsibility for his game but I think a question has to be posed concerning the development of players at Adelaide, he has had flaws to his descision making for a few years now and I think there's a problem on both sides. He has the skills to be a really good player and I don't think they've been developed and used very well. Good luck Marty.

Totally agree- not a great player- only kicks goals when his side are dominating- not worth chasing IMO

Bad by crows letting him go IMO- Is an out and out wingman and if he plays in this position will do well. Paul Roos isnt that bad a judge to offer a hack 3 years (supposedly)

Where do you think Roo's will play Marty, I'll tell you right now, HB my friend, like I said previously, AFL footballers should have more than one string to his bow.... As a quality AFL footballer, Marty should have the capability to play HB or Wing, that simple

I read with interest, Roos made special comments regarding Marty's good skills, Memo to Roos "Marty had a very poor year with skills and decision making"

Hopefully he gets to play on a wing ( not in the back pocket ) !!!

I agree that he didnt have a great year - but he had plenty of mates as well and there is a couple others that I would be sending on before him !!!

It will be sad to see him in another jumper more so than others have in the past but I honestly wish him all the best !!!

What I am concerned about is what we end up with for all this !!!
It is what it is !!!
