Regardless of when companies were founded and all the other bullshit that people come up with, a fair whack of Crows supporters grew up hating Port. The fact that it was Port in the SANFL is irrelevant.

It isn't a new rivalry.

I would imagine the Crows supporters who jump wagons this week are a lot of the same ones who never saw a game of footy prior to the Crows existance.

A cocky Williams said: "There's a big space there for a 2007 picture."

He said the players were drawing confidence and strength from the club's winning history of 36 premierships in 130 years in the SANFL and the 2004 AFL flag.

Primus has said King wil be their weakest link

Kane Cornes earlier in the week said the Cats will get stage fright

Mark Williams is obviously trying to develop the SANFL Port Adelaide arrogance of the 70's, 80's and 90's

For me this is a bit old school, to be honest, the rest of the league don't give a shite about PA sanfl history.......

Lets just hope that PA run as hard on Saturday as their mouth has all week

Agree SD 130 years in the SANFL is inadmissable in this weeks G/f in a different comp.
After all Geelong has never made the SANFL finals

The rest is all typical g/f week banter and I always find it entertaining.
And we all better believe that players are human and read the papers and can be affected.

He was asked a specific question about young players coming to Alberton and whether they learn the history of the club and success etc. Thats when he answered that they get shown things and theres pictures of every premiership team up in the club rooms and pictures of great players, buckleys up there, theres photos of the 2004 team all over the place and theres a nice spot there for a 2007 photo as well.

Hardly think it was an arrogant answer. As someone said...you can make anything look how you want when you cut quotes and take it out of context.

You're right sydney-dog, no one else gives a s**t about Ports SANFL history, nor do they give one about Freo's WAFL history, yet when all the stats are brought out ALL the VFL stats are included. Largely because we play in an expanded VFL comp i reckon.

You have to admire Williams for his confidence and the belief he installs into his players , even in a " rebuilding year " using the media to cast doubts into opposition teams minds is a speciality of his and any percentage of a advantage helps .

Not to keen on the Warren Tredrea and Chad Cornes carry on after kicking goals though ....
What i dont know about football isnt worth knowing .

But....on the flip side....

The Adelaide Crows are making a help-line available for fans who are disappointed with their performance.

The help-line number is 1800 10 10 10.

That's 1800, won nothing, won nothing, won nothing.

I think that Williams was pretty good laat night. He didnt have to appear but he did and seemed really calm. Same as in 2004 he and Tredrea went on TFS and were great. Williams got Fevola good that night.

Anyways thats not what this is about... lol now i cant rememeber what i was going to say!
Ok yes there has been a lot of crap said but surely Geelong have been saying the same stuff about Port that is what happens GF week. So all you whinging supporters clearly your team is not featuring on the last saturday in September!

I know this has been said before on here but i wanted to put my 2 cents in.

Go The POWER!!!

Good luck to the power but recently all the talking has been by the team facing the Cats. Last time the power played Geelong we were missing C Ling, J Selwood, and J Bartel. Now there is three stars of the Geelong line up and the power only just fell over the line thanks to a last minute kick. Mark Williams can say what he likes. The Cats will do the talking come 2.30 Saturday.

You mean comments like "how many premierships you won"?

Never heard a Port supporter talk about that sort of thing.

They're still talking about all their flags....which is fine.

But don't deride other clubs for a significant achievement in their recent history.

Personally DW i dont but whenever old port magpie premierships do get mentioned all the crows wankers jump in with ya living in the past so i think that now that they havent won anything for the last 9 years its funny how the past now is acceptable to drag out. Next thing ya know we will have a saints supporter telling us "ya aint special unless ya won a GF in the 60's"

Bit different Girter.

60s is very different and irrelevant to to what's happening now. I would think the 90s is still relevant though...it's modern football history. Hence something to be proud of.

And I reckon Port's premiership comments pre-date the Crows....we were hearing it before 1990. No wonder they react.

i know what ya saying and i agree the past is the past and 2 flags in the 90's is something that all clubs would be proud of but so is 1 this decade and the possibility of that becoming 2. It seems to be ok for some to sling shit but not the other way around. And the saints call was stupid but ya know what i mean

Yeah, fair enough.

Sling sh*t all ya like ;)

I'm enjoying it from the sidelines.

BTW - I reckon our 1990 flag still has about 10 per cent relevance, only because there's clubs with longer droughts than us who haven't looked like breaking them (Saints, Richmond, Melbourne).

If Geelong wins tomorrow, the percentage of relevance will further drop ;)
