Ackland playes some pretty good footy with St Kilda. Was handy around the ground and knew where the goals were. I'm kinda surprised how poorly he's done at Carlton.

North Adelaide nearly got him last time he was going to be cut or soon to be out of contract so hopefully he will be at Prospect next year - open up the cheque books!

Hes played at the Kangaroos before i think, so with a NM connection at Port, maybe we'll have a dip ;)

You can't pay your players from this year which is why at least one big name from this year is going back to Melb let alone recruit another ex AFL player.

One thing we have lot's more of at North than any other SANFL club by a very big margin is income these days so if we really want him we will get him but I do hear that a couple of SANFL clubs have already spoken to him other than North.

LOL that was the type of reaction i was expecting, hence the ;)

With our all time favourite Port Adelaide man Mr Scott on the Port Adelaide SANFL Bandwagon now all our problems are solved

It was always going to be hard in that team. Even if your ruck work was ok, you would still get hammered at the clearances.

yeah it's a good point about Carlton. st Kilda were playing damn good footy at the time which coincided with ackland playing good footy.

St Kilda were going ok, but IMO it was crazy to throw big money and a 3 year deal at Ackland.. he has never been a number one ruckmen and never will be, they would have been better going all out for a younger and more talented bloke like Seaby, Charman, Jolly or one in that mould, or even drafting a young bloke like Cameron Wood who is going to be much better value...

Charman has re-signed with the Lions. Cameron Wood is contracted for 2008.

Cameron Wood will be traded, most clubs trade players while they are still under contract, this way the club keeps a strong negotiation position as the player can not walk away and nominate for the draft

The Swans are very keen on Cameron Wood

"Will be traded"!!

Is that a prediction, inside knowledge or just wishful thinking?

Yes I understand that.

The Swans may be keen, but that doesn't mean he will be traded to Sydney or indeed anywhere else.

Brisbane has had a tradition of keeping a number of ruckmen on their list and will not be relying on just two main ruckman to carry their ruck division for the year.

2001: Keating, McDonald, Charman, Knobel, McLaren,
2002: Keating, McDonald, Charman, McLaren
2003: Keating, Charman, McDonald, McLaren
2004: Charman, Keating, McDonald, McLaren, Spaanderman
2005: Charman, Keating, McDonald, Wood, Spaanderman
2006: Charman, Keating, Wood, McDonald
2007: Charman, Wood, Leuenberger, McDonald
2008: Charman, Leuenberger (wuill definitely stay), Wood, McDonald (both contracted and from what I hear are required). Wood for example has three years of development already invested and at only 20, the Lions would be loath to lose him

Still depending on the trade offer who knows. An offer for Wood would have to be very, very good, before the Lions' would consider it.

not wishful thinking for me, I would not want the crows to target Wood

however I do know for sure that Wood has been approached byy sydney and couple of Melb based clubs, and I do know that he is considering his options as he is concerned with a lack of opportunity, especially given the signing of Charman and the late season form of Leuenberger

That still a very long way from claiming that Wood "will be traded." Once again, Wood is contracted for 2008, so if other clubs are interested they're going to have to approach the Brisbane Lions vis a trade. He obviously won't be going into the PSD and there is definitely no certainty he will be traded at all.

Matthews and co. will not want to leave themselves short of ruckmen, in case of injury/suspension. I really can't see Wood being traded, unless of course there is a very good offer. Leuenberger can also possibly used a key position forward or defender (which occasionally happened with Keating and happens with Charman), especially as he develops. Wood has also been used as a forward. Wood would benefit from fulfilling his contract, which gives him further opportunity to enhance his credentials for possible trade at the end of 2008.

He could just come home to Centrals, I'm sure opposition supporters would gladly see another SA product playing in the SANFL at their home club?

I would have thought he would be a chance to get picked up by someone, although it is interesting that they have delisted him prior to the trade period.
