If we can play footy indoors and put men on the moon surely we can clear a stadium in 3 hours?

Why not play
FRI
SAT
SUN
3 games in 3 days at the G
the other is at AAMI staduim this weekend

HW have had an imposing draw of late

RD 20 HOBART
RD 21 DOOM
RD 22 SYDNEY
EF ....DOOM this week

I betcha if we asked the HW hierachy where they would prefer to play this weekend
they would at a wild guess say the G

AFL needs to review the finals format
They piss fart around with a draft which EQUALISES the comp
And yet there is hardly anything fair and EQUAL about HW playing at the DOOM which
is not their home ground.

Kangas can't play Friday (5 day turnaround). Sydney and Hawthorn can't play Friday (5 day turnaround). The only possible match for Friday is the Foobaw Par clash between Port and the Eagles. And the broadcasting arrangement dictates four matches to be played in four different timeslots. Can't play 3 matches at the G in two days (sorry Dutchy). Hence somebody has to play at the Dome. Hawthorn and Collingwood are playing "interstate" sides. Given Collingwood's supporter base (and TV pulling power for Saturday night prime time coverage), Hawthorn get shafted.

Hence my assertion in another thread that Hawthorn is the victim of scheduling and money.

it was tough for the AFL due to Sydney, Hawks and Roos all involved in seperate finals and all played on Sunday meaning none could play Friday night

Saying that Collingwood getting the G and the Hawks getting TD means the Hawks were 'shafted' is a bit extreme surely ...

That's like saying I got shafted by only getting Elle McPherson while my mate got Jennifer Hawkins. Maybe I didn't get first choice but, honestly, can I really complain about what I got instead?

Come on guys, put this is some perspective. Hawthorn's training facilities and 'home' is out at Waverley, not the G.

Dutchy, I couldn't resist :)

Not extreme
MCG is the HW home ground
Imagine if PP played WC anywhere but AAMI staduim this week

Mal

If Port had only played 8 games at AAMI and had played 5 games at Adelaide Oval in 2007 then I don't think they would be super-fussed at playing at Adelaide Oval instead of AAMI - would prob prefer AAMI but would just be happy it's in Adelaide

That's the scenario facing the Hawks - the G is not their true home ground in the way that, say, Glenferrie or Waverley used to be. It's just a ground where they played 8 games this season v 5 at TD v 3 in Tasmania.

Why am I only hearing about this complaint on here? Where's the indignation from the HFC about this outrage?

Even I feel for Hawthorn - The AFLs expanation was that out of all the Melbourne games they thought that The Adelaide v Hawthorn game would attract the smallest crowd.

So in there wisdom have placed this game @ the Dome ???
It is what it is !!!

Sounds like someone hasn't had their afternoon nap MAL.... little bit cranky this afternoon....

The AFL had no real choice in the matter.. would you prefer Collingwood with a membership of 45,000 to have people shut out of a final while a half full MCG had the Crows v Hawks game on... The AFL has yes as put here followed the money - but also they have accomodated the most amount of fans possible... it seems like the reasonable and sensible thing to do - as much as I'd love to be going to the G for a final this week instead of the dome....

Anyway if Hawthorn had been good enough to beat Port 3 weeks ago or Sydney last week they would have got a final at the G against Geelong this week so they only have themselves to blame with a 5 - 5 record the last 10 weeks when the pressure went on
Port Power has 16 years history at Football Park...

The Port Magpies have 40 years history and the two shall never be confused or combined

I reckon this weeks ground allocation has been shaped by next week's yet to be determined games.

Loser of Port v West Coast will have a home final vs winner of Collingwood and Sydney.
Loser of Cats v Kangas final will have a home final against winner of Crows vs Hawks.
If the agreement says Telstra Doom has to get a game then it can only be in the first week because there are also commitments to the MCG. Remember the old deal where one Prelims always had to be played there? Now it is averaged out over a few years.

This still may not answer the question of why Hawks got the Dome but a qualifying final being the only game in Melb next week would be expected to get a bigger crowd than the Dome could hold.

Cranky ???????????????????????????????????????????????????????????????????????????????????
Morally HW should be at the G
You blame them thier 5-5 record in the last 10 weeks
They beat CO home on the ladder thats the criteria that counts
Not how many bums they get on seats at the G thats GREED

PS CO have about a 5-5 record in the last 10 weeks as well

That's just a terrible argument. I'll be the first to admit that Hawthorn had their chances to finish top 4 and blew it but they still finished with what should ensure a home ground advantage.

I am not making any complaints as a Hawthorn supporter and have not done so all week. As you said the most amount of fans are being accomodated. Same thing happened when all the non Victorian clubs kicked up a fuss when they won the right to a home final but the AFL wanted to play it at the MCG. You can't tell me that you are going to get more fans to a prelim anywhere in the country than you would at the MCG. Still plenty of whinging from non Victorian clubs got the AFL to overturn this policy. Fair to the non Victorian clubs yes just as it would have been fair to Hawthorn to get the MCG ahead of Collingwood.

Doesn't really matter in the end as far as i'm concerned. Earning a home ground advantage hasn't really helped the Crows the last couple of years. Had all the advantages in the world yet failed to make a GF. Home ground advantage did nothing for Port when they lost to Hawthorn, Collingwood and Sydney when red hot favourites in finals. Fact is if you are good enough you will win anywhere and it's as simple as that. Travel, conditions etc. are just cop outs from sides that can't face up to the fact they were not as good as the side that beat them.

SO MAL - let me just clarify with you..

Hawks v Crows should be at the MCG with 55,000 people and no one turned away....
Collingwood v Sydney should be at the Dome with 53,000 and 25,000 - 30,000 people turned away??

I don't agree - it's not GREED as you put it, it's just common sense and accomodating the greater amount of people, why have a half full stadium for one game and turn people away from the other?? Makes no sense at all!!

I'll agree that in a perfect world Hawthorn would play this final at the MCG (or bring back Waverley I say - which has 75,000 seating capacity) but the greater good of the game and it's fans (all of them) is to play the game at the Dome and get the bigger drawing attendance at the MCG...

If all else fails are you are really that unhappy - email the AFL and tell them of your concerns...

It's not an argument, it's a statement of fact!
My argument was about the crowd numbers you are going or would have got at both games...
Over here in Melbourne no one has made a big deal about it... they understand why it was done and have just accepted it.

Completely agree with this.. once that siren sounds it doesn't matter what oval you're playing on, they all have 4 posts down each end and a circle in the middle to bounce the ball!!
