I don't think he woulda got a shot elsewhere.
He would've been traded if he could've...

I agree

Sorry I wasn't trying to suggest anything re Carlton - just commenting on what seems to be a new trend across the league

Matty Lappin was underrated imo.

St Kilda shouldnt have gotten rid of him (i think we got a bloke by the name of Jacob Anstey for him. :? )

Spot on..

He was great and for his body type, to play 251 games was a magnificent effort.

Add picket to the list

MELBOURNE veteran Byron Pickett has announced his retirement from AFL football.

Pickett played 203 games with three clubs and was a member of North Melbourne and Port Adelaide premiership sides.

He won the Norm Smith Medal with the Power in 2004.

Pickett joined Clint Bizzell and Nathan Brown as Demons players to announce their retirement this week.

Byron circa GF day 2004 was electrifying.Might just be remembered as one of the last 'hard men' of football.Lets hope not.

Disappointing to see fraser pull up stumps, had another year or two in him. will be a big hole to fill in our forward line.

Credit to Thommo for a great career. B+F winner in 2000 I think. Valuable impact player off the bench in 04 and 05.

Hamill must be unlikely for 2008?

Chris Johnson has retired too.

Think I read earlier this year that Nathan Brown was keen to come back to Westies for a couple of years, so that'd be a good pick-up for them.

Not sure if playing out another year at the Saints was a good thing for Matty

Hamill was one I was not happy to see leave Carlton, he had 4 reasonable years with the Saints, the past three shockers through injury.

Wooden as well as Rowan Jones

Some WCE supporters are going to have to find a new whipping boy. They were both great servants to the club and will be heavily missed.

Great career Rowan 150+ games and a premiership

Woodne 96 games- Shame he couldnt get to 100 because of injuries.
