I don't think Jurrah's situation reflects poorly on Port at all.

Noone does nothing for nothing, so Port would have been happy to help rehabilitate Jurrah with the pay-off being him playing for the Power or Magpies .. Jurrah's action's have been his own and are no fault of Port's.

They took a punt, it didn't pay off, but they didn't lose anything.

Say he doesnt go to jail, and contributes to improving Ports forward line pressure and kicks 40-50 goals, and draws people through the gates to see some hangers.

Port did the right thing. They had a look and didnt like it, so said no. But instead of just cutting him off completely, they gave him another opportunity to improve his life. He didnt take it.

Port did nothing wrong in my opinion.

If listed at all ( and I truly believe that was never likely ) it would have been at the rookie draft after several weeks of training and showing he was prepared to do the work. If he had been prepared to commit to AFL level and missed out on a spot on the list, then the option to play SANFL along with a role in the community program would have been on the table.

His attitude to training, I understand, meant he was no chance of getting on the AFL list.

If we had listed him in December, who knows what would have happened and as we know, we didnt, so why speculate that it was a bad decision and reflects poorly upon us when no decison was made?

Liam Jurrah is an interesting portrait into modern Aboriginality.
I don't think any of us could understand what he is going through or why his actions made sense to him.
I'm not justifying them, mind you.

While Aboriginal people might be part of greater society today, they are still fringe dwellers in many ways.

Never said you said it was....

Am getting a tad tired of hearing about how people are from a different culture so we need to understand that... in which culture is domestic violence acceptable?

Some societys still think violence is acceptable. Im not saying it is. Jurrahs been exposed to Western culture for a only a couple of years, and old habits die hard.

He should go to jail, dont get me wrong. I just found that point of view interesting.

All societies rationalise the need for violence.
