It was clearly an accident and he shouldn't get suspended.

The system is stuffed, but I agree with you he shouldn't get any games for that.
Just unfortunate he hit his head.

Spot on Smithy.

The AFL as rule makers, were always going to face a situation like this, given the way the rules have changed and game has involved the natural behaviour of a ball carrier is to fall forward when tackled because they are so easily "rewarded" with a Push In The Back.

I'm not saying thats exactly how it played out in this instance, but it's something we were going to see again without fail.

I reckon they'll try to send a message to players by calling Thommy up to the tribunal, but I can't see that he can get any suspension for that.

I'm not suggesting he should be getting a suspension - but this is the same guy who tackled and injured Hentschel...

That tackle on Hentschel was completely legal and shouldn't even be brought into the discussion.

Love him or hate him he's a great player and IMHO always plays well in Showdown's and big matches for Port (ok, bar last years Granny when most went missing).

Can't really see the relevance sorry mate ... Footy like most sport, is a game where there's always a possibility of serious injury ocurring.

Don't think there was anything untoward in either tackle and there's no way Thomas' intention would have been to injure Hentschel or Bassett.

Motlop - Is a sook, spat the dummy so many times!

He needs to spit the dummy that way he doesn't choke when he gets to kick at goal

As a Crow supporter I thought Thomas tackle was legal. He came in from the side and pinned Bassett's arms but unfortunately for Bassett he hit his head hard into the turf. There seemed to be no intent from Thomas to drive him into the ground.

Bogan however has a lot to worry about. Once a thug always a thug. The guy's an idiot.

Why is Brogan a thug? he stopped a crows player from tackling his own player. I don't think there was anything in it.

I thought the Pettigrew (i think) hit on Scott Thompson late in the last quarter was very poor and I think he should get done for it.

I don't think the Hentschel tackle was a reportable offence either....

But I do think the lad needs to look at his tackling technique.... it's easy to say "he didn't mean it" - but I think Port (the club and NOT the AFL through a suspension - needs to address how he tackles, because he seems to have an issue with the way he tackles...

No way, it could have happened to anyone tackling Hentschel or Bassett, they both were accidental.

It doesn't matter if there's intention to injure or not, or whether its an example of the 'perfect' tackle ... you watch the SLAM tackle disappear from our game because of the risk of serious injury.

There's plenty of chances in a game for players to go the slam to finish off a tackle however only a few actually go through with it.

Thomas clearly had stopped Bassett, finished the play and then made a conscious decision to go the slam when he didn't have to. Same as he did against Hentschell, same as Byron used to do. He was just trying to play the enforcer role and wouldn't have wanted to concuss Bass, but the risk of serious injury remains.

Brogan's was fine IMO FWIW.
In between signatures .....

I don't think it was that and that wasn't the intention of bringing up the incident - more to highlight that in my opinion he has a deficancy in his tackling technique that needs to be addressed, rather then to suspend the young lad....

Out of all the hits today, I thought Pettigrew's on Scott Thompson was p1ss weak and i wouldn't be surprised if he got suspended.

the hit on Jericho, Bogan didn't go for the ball he went for the player. The stupid thing is , if he went for the ball he would have got it and kicked into Ports forward lines. He should be suspended for charging, at least!

The game is footy not thuggery!!

he was shepherding his team mates, putting his body on the line.

last week people were bagging Port for being soft but when they start to play more aggressive football, people start to say they are thugs and say that they should be reported.

I bet you if a Crows player took out a Port player, we wouldn't be having this conversation!
