Its a good point. I think the boss of Rugby League does whatever he wants and does not care what anybody else thinks. Think Gil is more concerned with pleasing everybody and they end up over reacting to things with some of their decisions.

NRL doesnt need to accommodate SA or WA, simplifies things a bit

But does need to accommodate a team from NZ....
The Kiwis aren't a bunch of Nancy boys, they packed up everything and said goodbye to their families so they could do their job of playing Rugby League......

Talking to a work mate this morning, he's pretty close to Stephen Kearney apparently he's hasn't seen his wife and kids for something like 6 months, had to put his life on hold for his job.

There have been 7,461 cases amongst a population of 25,499,884 which = 0.029% a chance of getting it.

Yep inevitable, just bloody unlucky if you ask me

Even at 0.029%, for 800 odd AFL players that means there is a 23% chance 1 of them has it.

Add in the fact that these players are over-tested in comparison to the rest of the population, means it's higher again.

Inevitable is perhaps over stating it, but to suggest it was a remote chance isn't accurate either.

Whats the maths behind 23%?

0.029% * 800 players = 23.2%

Granted you could argue that technically you are meant to do 1-(1-1/0.029%)^800) to work out the chance of at least 1 AFL player having it (ie: this allows for the fact that more than 1 of the 800 might have it), which comes out at 20.87% chance of at least 1 of the 800 has it, but for the purposes of a rough estimate, I used the simplified method above.

If you roll a dice you have a 1 in 6 chance of rolling a 6, or 0.16667 or 16.667%

If you roll the same dice 6 times, you can't say you now have a 100% (16.667% * 6) chance of rolling a 6.
This is because sometimes you will roll 2 sixes in that group and other times none.

So the chance of rolling at least 1 6 in 6 rolls of a dice is actually the inverse of not rolling a 6 in those 6 rolls, which is equal to the inverse of rolling a 6 in one roll, to the power of 6.

Chance of rolling a 6 = 16.67%
Chance of not rolling a 6 in 1 roll = 100%-16.67%=83.33%
Chance of Not rolling a 6 in 6 rolls = 0.8333^6 = 33.49%
Chance of rolling at least 1 6 in 6 rolls = 100% - 33.49% = 66.51%

Nope.

If you are working in decimal format = 7461/25499884 = 0.000293 * 800 = 0.234
If you are working in % format = 7461/25499884 = 0.0293% * 800 = 23.4%

Other way of checking, just times the initial 7461 by 800 and you get roughly 6million out of 25 million, just under 25%

tinfoil hat.. AFL have enough pulling power to have a positive test "corrected" to avoid any hinderance on their season..

There is a lot of talk about a hub being set up in Perth with 60K crowds from mid July. If Perth can do it, why can't Adelaide be an option?
