Hinckley said on 5AA that he hasn't spoken to Bassett about coaching, yet. It would need to be a step up for Bassett to move. Maybe he's put his hand up for the Bombers job, although unlikely to get it with Woosha being head hunted.

I think Bass would be alright working under bosses .. He'd have to be if he wants a career in the industry.

Most clubs are aware of his nature - Belligerent and never frightened to say it out how he sees it, so I would imagine there would be assurances/clauses included in any contract to ensure he toes the line.

Great developer of younger talent.

I think any strong coach would want someone who tells it like he sees it rather than just being a yes man.

Bass goes a bit further than that though.
He rattled a few cages at Essendon and some of the uppity board members didnt take too well to it.

Interesting, hadn't heard that before.

Bassett seems to be well respected in the industry still

Respected for the positives he brings, complete opposite with the negatives. There's quite a few people in the industry that won't even entertain the notion of him being involved with their club, on their watch.

Very respected for his knowledge and 1 on 1 work with players aswell as gameday stuff. Just not a team player, had a few runs ins with Bomber and other line coaches and tends to do things his way. Would make an excellant head coach one day, dont think assistant is his scene.

Bass was once described to me as the best and worst coach in the SANFL, by a person that worked closely with him.

Is he ready for a head afl gig yet?

Seems only a matter of time before he does, assuming he doesn't step on too many toes.

He would of been close to getting our gig if he hadnt of upset a couple of people.
Seems like he is desperate to return home aswell so that may rule him out of future jobs

If worsfold doesn't get the crowd job I'm really not sure who will. No names have even started circulating besides worsfold and campo. I guess with finals still there they haven't really been thinking about it

I have had similar feedback, from people that would know.

His worst comes from the divisiveness behind the scenes he can create (if allowed), when he's not getting his own way.

AFL clubs are pretty strong off-field these days, I think he would be fine to take on because the clubs wouldn't let him get away with it.

I reckon they have their man and it's not Campo or Woosha.

Mitchell,Shaw and Byrne-Jones to be cut.

Logan to go from the rookie list, perhaps Butcher or Redden to take his spot.

Moore, Young and Colquhoun trade offerings.

Port Adelaide 2015

Postby RustyCage » Mon Sep 14, 2015 2:47 pm

I think that shows our depth at the minute. Mitchell, Moore and Young are the three that always come in any time theres a change in the Power line up that week, and none of them have shown they can cut it at that level.

Mitchell generally good at SANFL level, but was horrible yesterday.

Moore went missing again when we needed him.

Young has also had plenty of chances but has failed to demand a spot in our A grade.

Willing to give the Hoon another year as he is getting over his ACL, but if his disposal stays as bad as it is, he is just another Mitchell.

DBJ and Russell are two that I can't see being any better than just solid SANFL players.

Clurey is going to be a gun, he is really coming along nicely.

Big Bill Frampton, can't say enough good things about this big guy. Exciting exciting exciting.

Jesse Palmer is another of last years draftees who is a step above SANFL level.

Logan Austin is someone who is a little bit off AFL level but will definitely get there. Has the skills and body shape and size to make it. Very smart player, just some questions over his shoulders long term.

Dougal Howard is very raw but showing promise, seems more comfortable down back since Austin went under the knife.

Shaw, hasn't come on as hoped, talk of him leaving, very tradable.

Harvey - important year for him next year. Needs to start impacting on SANFL games more regularly.

Butcher. Has really stepped it up in the last two months. Hitting the packs hard and taking some nice marks. His positioning around the packs is much better. Definitely deserving of another contract. Looks like a new born giraffe sometimes, and kicks for goal like someone who has never seen a Sherrin before but his field kicking is very good.

Yoey - one year left on his rookie contract before he heads off to country footy. Barely SANFL reserves standard. Seems to have the skills but is someone who just can't get his hands on the ball more than once or twice a quarter.

Redden - Ruck work has been very good of late but is useless around the ground, and very much a plodder. Injuries have killed his career. Will stay on the main list or be rookied as cover for Ryder with the WADA issues.

Sammy has now got Impey, Krakouer and to a lesser extent Pittard and Broadbent to dislodge across half back/back pocket.

He's a long way back in the order IMO and with the likely loss of at least a first round pick this year we need to keep the list turning over and a suitable trade for him would be attractive, I think.
