It's really become a remarkable series of events.

No the whole ordeal, just the fact nobody has suggested or nobody has been able to convince Hird to just STFU. James, please, just STFU. It's been a long, lone time since anyone following this story would be prepared to give you the time of day, nobody is interested in your side of the story. We don't believe a word that comes out of your mouth.

On so many levels, I'm saddened that I agree with you.

Yep, bang on.

Hird's reputation is tarnished, not only as a football coach, but as a reliable and trustworthy human being. Who would seriously employ him now? I presume his only chance of making a buck is relying his missus and/or selling his version of the story tabloid style.

Yup, I got paid over half a Mill a year to lead the Footy Program but it's not my fault. I'm the one who came in and got rid of fitness staff (who less than five years early was S&C Coord at WC in back to back GFs) and put the weapon in charge (Thompson might have driven that but at the end of the day I have to approve it. It's me who saw the emails about supplements, it's me who wanted us to have an edge over other clubs

But it's not my fault!!
Let that be a lesson to you Port, no one beats the Bays five times in a row in a GF and gets away with it!!!

I have softened my stance a bit on Hird. I have watched the interview and thought Tracy was fantastic. I think he is finally showing some contrition for his role in the mess and that is something. I think he is starting to realize his failings and finally admit to them.

I have felt all along that his crime was naivety and inexperience rather than being the architect of a deliberate doping program. I think this case also says a lot about clubs appointing a senior coach who is inexperienced and/or a "favorite son". I think that this program never happens if the senior coach is experienced and that if it wasn't James Hird the matter settles way earlier because the club would have simply cast their coach aside on the "blackest day in sport". Take the Hird name out of it and I reckon this thing settles the same way Cronulla's did. I blame both Hird and the club for that.

I think he needs to move past being so certain that performance enhancing drugs were not given to his players because that is the key plank he is leaning on when he claims how this outcome is "a miscarriage of justice". On one hand he admits he does not know what Dank gave the players but on the other hand he is adamant they did not take performance enhancing drugs. One contradicts the other surely.

Unfortunately this whole saga has years to play out yet.
First player to have a child with learning difficulties or (hopefully not) worse health issues this will come up again.

Exactly Hondo, one minute he knows what they took then he doesn't. He even threw the doc under a bus by implying he should have done more? WTF is a letter of concern not enough?
Then they continue anyway sneaky like. Maybe the drugs James took has affected his thought process?
James is trying to save some sort of credibility, but its gone like last weeks pay!

It was a covert plan by ALL parties concerned to get an advantage.

Crowley is on the radar apparently. Wouldn't be a bad first yp choice. Yes hes a tagger but thats a good thing as Essendon will be doing chasing jumpers this season.

But seriously he is a mature age player and ready to go.

Tom Logan be an option, Jim?

Offer some much needed hardness, an older head around the group, someone to lead by example.

Havnt heard his name mentioned yet but yes I agree.
Seems that players are contacting the club at this stage rather than vice versa. Crowley had a medical yesterday and Kelly has had 2 meetings

I think he was one paced, looked to have lost his real spark, but having said that they'll need someone willing to put their head over the ball ( when he gets there ) and lead the way for some younger lads making their way into the game.

Wouldn't be the first bloke I'd call, if I was Essendon, but I wouldn't discount him either.

Yep fair call. Has been a selfless workhorse for so many years, you'd think it would have to have taken some sort of toll. But you're right, for a good sized body and leadership qualities, there might be a place for him.

Fitting really, the first guy to get a contract is the most recent player suspended for using a banned product. I understand he's served his time but not a good look

Where is the clubs penalty...

Only players and coaches so far...

Don't give me, the players are the club.

Can you tell me the clubs penalty?

Yep, Simpkins, Polkinghorne, Kelly and Stokes also close to signing.
Wonder what compensation we are paying South Fremantle as Crowley just signed a 2 year deal to play and be assistant coach

For poor governance.

To the best of my knowledge, the club is yet to be sanctioned for doping.
