Adelaide v Essendon

Talk on the national game

Not happy Jan.

I thought the second half was pretty awful to watch -way too scrappy.
Gill's miss was terrible and unforgivable.
He nearly missed the goal at the end as well -can't believe his kicking technique is so poor.

Plenty of opportunities, but poor delivery to forwards cost us again (and again)

I actually find afl cames hard to watch, due to the soft umpiring interpretations.
The crows are in big strife now, good to see Gill have a crack, but, yeah, he was pretty jittery in front of goal eh.

I would have thought he Crows would have had someone working with him on his kicking all this season - unless they never intended to use him this year! At least he competes as does Maric - I'd like to see them both get more time on the ground for the rest of the season.

How many weeks until coach number 5 is sacked for the year. Time to go Craigy!!
Great work Bombers, good to see the Bomber boys get a win for Sheeds.

One of the commetators I heard on 3AW over here suggested there was some form of row going between Neil Craig and someone else in the coaches' box at one time. There was also a comment that Maric was signalling to the coach to suggest he wasn't getting enough ground time.

I don't know whether that was really happening though, or whether the Crows problems are attributable to the coach - except under Blight the Crows have always tended to play the "stars" whether or not they were fit or in form. The view seems to be that Adelaide fans go to the footy to see the name players rather than to see a team.

What did we think of Campbell's first game?

A few mistakes but I liked his desire to have a go at running the lines and kicking long in to the forward line

Limited game time and he played mostly up forward which isn't his main position. Just like you were I was impressed with his confidence to run the lines and carry the ball. Will only get better.

I thought the same thing last year when the Crows were dominating and Port only barely had enough players to form a team. What happened? Port won. Dont write the Crows off.

As North, and Bombers supporters, Ian jnr and I were hoping for Gilly to kick a bag, and the Bombers to have a good win.

Gill looked very nervous in front of goal, he has been kicking a lot better than that for North the last 18 months since Fudd has been working with him. No one could question his 2nd and 3rd efforts though, his attack on the ball, and tackling was very good.

Good game to watch tho and some good signs for the boys, despite the ongoing clangers including a couple of crucial misses by Gill and VB in the last quarter

Another close away loss

Chances of winning 4 out of last 5 very slim

Good signs for the boys...WTF, the game was there for the taking and we let Essendon take it. That is not a good sign. Chances of winning 4 out of 5...No chance, at the risk of repeating myself, we need to move on to 2008. Its all over for 2007.

We were ordinary. We turned the ball over far too often and the difference betweent the two sides was conversion of chances. Maybe now Neil Craig will do what Mark Williams did last year and blood some of the younger payers to try and salvage something from another wasted season - I doubt it though.

Not looking forward to ths weekend, but look on the bright side of it, at least we will be getting some good draft picks this year.

Whilst I disagree with your tone and delivery O/L I think your on the mark with the disposal. It has been critical factor in our losses this year particualrly the close one. Three times in the last five minutes v st Kilda we burnt the ball, yesterday teh was the same. Gee with all the high tech equipment they have down there at Footy park (large projection screens that simulate matches and can train decsion making) and the work they have been doing with the AIS scientist Damien Farrow on decsion making still some poor skill decisions and executions being made down by our players.

Another disappointing aspect has been losing the close ones, good teams with strong work ethic and desire don't lose those games, says a lot about some of the natural competitive instincts of the palyers in red, gold and blue.

but ah well some palyers have still have good seasons and racked up their 30 touches a game by demanding the footy in poor position (Grr)

As I said elsewhere i don't mind losing but i do mind if i see players not putting in, and too many times this season I have been disappointed by the effort put in by the team as a collective.

As a case in point dn't tell me that North melbourne as individuals are more talented than our players but collectively as a unit they show us how a team should scrap and fight week in and week out and hence why they are in the top four and we are only a mathmatical chance of playing finals footy.
Let that be a lesson to you Port, no one beats the Bays five times in a row in a GF and gets away with it!!!

Overloaded

By looking for some positive signs that doesn't mean I am ignoring the negatives which are are quick to correct me on. Tassie's comments and your comments (with a tone filter) are all valid

Postives I was referring to:

- Gill and Campbell looking good in their first game
- Perrie contributing in defence
- being competitive and in a good position to win
- Edwards and Goodwin showing better form
- McGregor 4 goals
- Better free-flowing football
- Kicking longer to the forward line
- coming back from 6 goals to 2 showed some fight
- edit (Stumps reminded me) - Bock at CHB

when you compare it to the previous game

From where I sit, if we can fix this clanger problem and get some instinctive flow back into our game we are close to the mark. Our biggest losing margin this year remains 29 points.
