Yep, we played rubbish and kicked for goal badly but we're not far away from being a top 4 team at the moment.

They did well keeping our out-riders quiet and that hurt us going into attack. The commentators were having a go at our forwards not taking a mark, well geez, they had a loose man back there all night and we kept kicking it to him IF we actually got it inside 50 with any method.

sorry mate but top 4 teams with everything to play for should not serve up shite like we did tonight....we are no where near top 4 material at the moment and the way we are playing the cows will smash us next game...

Agree that we were ordinary but I still think our deficiencies are in defence AND that we're not that far off. We're not speedy enough to be able to press up field like we did tonight. We should've had three back when it was in our forward lines rather than going man on man with the likes of their little blokes and Stanley who can outsprint most of our backman. Put Yarran and Carrots back in that side and we win.

The thing that killed us tonight was clearances. We go smashed at stoppages and that puts the defence under enormous pressure. We haven't got the backman to be able to hold up Kozzy and Riewoldt and the like for enough of the game to give ourselves a chance. Bower still annoys me....

I started a thread about goal kicking making or breaking teams - well it did last night. We missed two set shots in a row, Scotland and Simpson I think it was, then they run down the other end and kick a goal (coast to coast). Then in the last, we missed what, four set shots? When will teams learn?

yeah good points m8 the players out at the moment make a big difference to our side..but we dont seem to have any real good players coming in to take their spots when they are out..

look at geelong over the last 4 years when they have had good players out either the middle of the road players step up or the replacements do...

also take this season essendon and the eagles have heaps of injuries but still have shown plenty with the players that have come in..

i just think at the moment our whole side and premiership drive is based on not having any injuries for the whole season our best 22 is a real threat but take 2 or 3 of them out and we fall away big time so to me we are in real danger and will never be genuine flag contenders until they sort this out.

as to goal kicking its the one thing over the history of the game that has never got any better why i dont know wish i could answer that m8...

Where are Carlton's first 2 draft picks in 09 (Lucas, #12 and Davies, #43) and 10 (Watson, #18, and McCarthy #34)?

I know Lucas is there abouts and Watson played a few early but I havent heard a thing since.

Completely agree, and that's why I don't think we'll win it. We need a heap of luck for it to go our way and history says we wont have that luck. Not only do we have to have a heap of luck go our way we need others to be crippled by injury.

Hang on. Didn't you rebuild last year? Should be good to go again this year, surely?

Lucas has missed 2 games this year, he'll play next week. Davies has had a shoulder and is out for another 8 weeks, Watson is struggling a little in the Reserves but he'll come on OK, and McCarthy will play senior footy later in the year....

IMO the rebuild started last year and is continuing this year. Well it had to, we had the oldest list in the comp last year (not so sure about this year though).

For a highly rated midfield, we are currently getting smashed at the clearances and have done since the Collingwood game.

I reckon I've disagreed with gadj in the past about certain players but you've proved me wrong mate. With spuds like Russell, Bower, Curnow and Thornton getting a game, we'll never be a contender. Time to drop Gibbs too! He's must be crying homesick again coz it doesn't even look like he's trying.

Curnow and Thornton haven't been in our worst 10 during our losses. I like Curnow. Gibbs, Russell and Bower worry me though. What's worse, when the opposition go forward, there is little pressure on them. Their "snaps" are with little pressure if any.

Wayne Carey said on the radio part way through the last quarter that the Crows had scored 58 points from clearances. That's not good enough even if Murphy wasn't there.

I think we didn't pay GWS any respect and now are suffering for it. Next week, Melbourne!
