After some backlash yesterday, I reckon the footage of him apologising and saying don't do drugs at the start was recorded yesterday.

Skimmed over the sleeping pill incident this year too quickly.

Didn't realise how much of an addict he was.. taking your old man at 4am.. go to bed ya drongo.

Anyway all done, I still love him and I hope he stays clean and enters the media, as i think he is quite articulate when he speaks and could be entertaining in some sort of media outlet.

Despite opinions on the man, after watching part 2 last night I can honestly say I did learn a few things about drugs and drug addiction.

The effect it had on his family I found particuarly harrowing, particularly his old man. That story of him being left by Ben in a bus shelter in just his pyjamas was pretty full on.

At the very least it's got people talking about the issue, which can only be a good thing.

Exactly right, as Ben said "Drug addiction is where Mental Health was 20 years ago" everyone knew it was problem but no one wanted to do anything about.

A bloke that rang up Rowie and Cornsey last night who had obvious experience in addiction (proffessional or addict?) explained the reasons for things ben said in his docco and did when he was at the peak/recovering from his drug addiction. was very interesting to hear some detailed context of the things that were addressed in the docco.

Well done Ben!

Interesting thing I read this morning- one of the Perth police chiefs or detectives involved in his arrest coming out and saying if Ben is serious about rehabilitating and sending out the right message to the community he should name the dealers he dealt with and bought from.

I agree 100%

I'd say there's be certain implications on his life which would prevent him saying anything.

He's got more than enough cash to disappear overseas.

Old saying ''you play with fire you'll get burned''.

By naming names- he would know the major players in Perth, he could in turn save the lives of many others...

rubbish- the cops know who they are anyway, but are too lazy to do anything about it.

naive- a dealer goes to jail/dies/retires, someone else takes their place.
The way to strongly (& seriously) tackle the drugs issue is at the precursor stage, & to strip cartels of their wealth, which isn't legally obtained.
That does more than arrest a few low-end dealers.

Ben has been able to get his addiciton under control(for the moment), return to AFL, publicly raise the issue of drug addiction and now needs to focus on his continued rehabilitation and rest of his life. Why would he want the stress of court cases, moving overseas, having his life and the life of his family under threat? Geez some people think so simply. These people dont f*ck around. His life would be worse if he did that than when he was on the gear plain and simple.

I have this horrible feeling that now he has retired, he will have no routine in his life and unfortunately, I think there's a good chance he will re-lapse. I really hope he doesn't, but I just have this feeling.

it was interesting how his dad and drug experts were saying (after the docco last night) that relapses are not the end of the world and are very much a aprt of recovery. thought that was interesting..
people (inluding me) are very much uneducated about the issue..

I think you will find that Richmond/AFL will find a role for him and i think he can and will enter the media in some way. This will hopefully give him enough distraction or a focus in life to keep him straight. Also the people around him will be keeping a closer watch on him and would have learnt from previous mistakes in dealing with him.

The book "In My Skin" by Kate Holden is another interesting insight into drug addiction (and prostitution) from somewhere who has been there.
From memory she had three or four relapses, or at least rehab stints.
Should it be any surprise people relapse? Look how many try to give up the smokes and succeed only for a while.
