They do that over here in the Premier League. The 'Summer' transfer period is open from May to the start of September after the season has begun) and then there's another period that lasts for the month of Jan in the middle of the season. And just because players can be traded for half the year doesn't mean anyone gets fair value (unless a Russian or Arab billionaire are shelling out stupid money) it just means the trades drag on and on and on and nobody knows WTF is going on, until there's a mad scramble in the last 3 hours of the final day of the transfer window.

It SUCKS THE FAT ONE and if the AFL did it, they'd just be further selling the soul of the great game to the power of the $$$$$$$$ and all the dirty agents that go with it.

Seriously, be thankful for a week long trade period. That's long and bad enough.

I wasn't suggesting we have a mid-season fiasco like the current draft week. You're right, that would a fiasco. I was suggesting we have a system put into place where if two clubs see value in trading players mid-season, they are able to do so.

You could have a situation where by round 11 a club has a plethora of ruckmen but no forwards, and another club has forwards but all their ruckman are injured.

None of this "throwing players on the table" crap, just a genuine swap that benefits both clubs. You could appoint an arbitrator to oversee the transaction.

Yeah, value for Essendon. The Cats get an unknown quanitity for a promising midfielder who we've put four years into. Shocking deal. As has been stated elsewhere on online Pris will have played 100 games in the next five years and there is a big chance that pick number 23 will be delisted never mind pick 39.

I think 3 of the first 4 PSD picks are non-Victorian teams so it will be very interesting. Could Cousins end up at Freo? I think the PSD is all pre-arranged anyway by the teams so he'll probably end up at the club that wants him.

On Harris .. a week or so ago I heard his name being mentioned as moving on from NM but I haven't heard anything since

Nobody wants him. And to think I was shouted down by the Dutchman for suggesting that they would never make a footballer out of him. *scurries from the thread*

Swans are pretty confident that O'keefe will stay there now

why wouldnt they swap warnock for just 24 & 56 and forget about pick 69 & 72 changing hands? Seems a bit finicky for such low picks that are only 3 places different-

Yeh, I don't get that either. So we couldn't get him for pick 24 (which might equate to a 10 game or 100 game player) but we get him with pick 24, 56 (.1 of a chance of being a decent player) and pick 72 (less than .1 of a chance of being a decent player.

What a waste of time.

Was mentioned on AA that Harris has another year left on his contract at about $310,000 per year, that's why no one went for him.

It has the ring of a typical bureaucrat trying to prove they are working hard to earn their salary - getting a pointless little extra for the sake of a trivial victory on the score sheet.

Bull5hit...It's easy if you don't want to deal....DON'T.
Give me an example of when Carlton have been a pain in the ass to trade with ? You'd probably find Carlton is one of the
better clubs to deal with.
Have Freo come out and said it was Carlton's demand that we get pick 69 in lieu of Pick 72 ?

Love how people are quick to point the finger, yet nothing is said about Freo's inability to do a good trade....

I know we've made our fair share of mistakes at Tigerland, but that was possibly the worst in my lifetime...

EDIT: I then just thought about us taking Tambling ahead of Franklin and Oakley-Nicholls ahead of shitloads of others... Maybe we just shouldn't have a first-round draft pick this year.
