Port Adelaide 2015

Talk on the national game

Dixon is probably the best young forward in the game after Cameron, saying he is a spud is pretty laughable.

If Boyd is 1m and Tippett is 700k then 700 for Dixon seems like a steal.

I think his other "issues" makes his price a little scary for some

I don't rate Tony Shaw at anything really but he just put forward a great quote....

"I don't trust Port, they are down hill skiers. They have burnt me again"

Sort of sums it up. I will be there next Saturday supporting the team none the less. It will be interesting to see how we move forward without the burden of finals to tie our hands. Few blokes playing for their list spots and some for careers I would think. Surely a couple of kids to come in.

Karl Amon, Ah-chee , Krakour surely get some game time.
Kane Mitchell either gets one more crack or gets delisted. Having a big game for the Magpies
Jonas surely is in our future plans so get him in

Tough day but time to make some changes and accept in 2015, we have been shit.

Kane Mitchell has had plenty of chances - he is a shocking decision maker with poor disposal - not worthy of an AFL spot.Jonas was great last year, ordinary now & doesn't deserve a game until he puts his selection beyond doubt. The players under pressure to hold their spots are Ebert, O'Shea, Clurey, Colqhoun,Lobbe I reckon. Even R Gray and Boak looked half interested today but they have plenty of credits in the bank.

Ebert is the one who has stuck out as the most disappointing this year.

I agree. Doesn't have a lot of weapons. Finds a bit of it, but lacks polish.

Footballers are just soldiers who follow the reigns of their directors/generals

We are all aware of ports capacity to play top 4 footy, but with their now inability to execute such standards i blame their off field leaders

Quite possibly the great heights they got to was due to the influences of alan richardson & phil walsh in previous seasons, however this season is the focus and if i was on the board i would wish to discuss the following....

# is the dominating presence of michael voss, shriveling ken hinkley?

# ken seems to be acting as a board member who has passed on the hands on duties to others, and he is judging his boys from a far, rather than intimately fathering them like he did in previous years

# i honestly believe Voss is the head coach down there, and like in brisbane, this man despite having terrific qualities, doesnt quite inspire a footballer to execute in his maximum capacity

# are the boys tired of the darren burgess regime?

just my observations blah

Everyone will have their own theories as to the demise of Port this year, those closer to the club will have a better clue than myself, but from an outsiders perspective, several of these seem to have added up:

- Trying to fit Ryder into the mix took a while - Did it contribute to reduced output from Westoff and Lobbe?
- White and Polec had career best seasons and provide the great majority of Ports outside run, yet neither have been available much this year.
- Has WADA had an effect on Monfries? (and maybe Ryder)
- Did the later finish to 2014, and subsequent later start to pre-season for 2015 have a negative bearing on the squads belief in their fitness level, which was a strong point the previous season.
- Loss of Richardson and Walsh.
- Faith in fringe players who had breakout seasons in 2014 - Im sure the club would have hoped some of Jonas, Neade, Impey, Young etc., would have been able to provide regular acceptable performance levels this season.
- Opposition putting a LOT of time into Port and their game style in the off-season.
- Off-season hype?

Its definitely a combination of things:
*missing Polec
*players and the club getting ahead of itself
*opposition clubs much better at countering game-plan
*very tough FIXture hasnt helped
*Schulz's decline
*lack of any other legitimate key forward options
*club didnt take pre season seriously enough
*etc etc etc etc

-some players don't want Ryder for the money he is on and will be even more pi55ed if it squeezes Schulz out.
-some players believe they get flogged too much on the training track.

That sounds like a load of Cr*p to me.
Last year we were good, this year we have been poor - and all other sides have improved. Simple as that.
I think finishing about 12th will be good for Port, I reckon we'll bounce back BIG TIME next year. :D

Port got smashed.

Giants creamed the Bombers.

Could GWS playing for a final spot come to Adelaide Oval next week as the bookies favourite

Will be an interesting game week at selection and even more interesting to see how we respond.

Despite 2015 being as good as done and dusted I hope we can put on a display for our fans that gives us hope going forward. I think the Ashes debacle had prepared me for the sporting teams I love letting me down...badly :(
