As a top 4 side you should also therefore also be hard to beat?

5 - 15 or 3 - 19 against fellow hard to beat top 4 sides, or whatever the number you choose to use, suggests not.

Magnificent record against the shite teams though, so there is that.

Correct, the poor sides find it hard to beat us, they don't. We find it hard to beat the very good sides, we don't.

So, we have to get better.

Breaking atoms today lads.

I thought it was splitting atoms…

Maybe I'm a happy clapper, but I'd rather see my side reach a prelim more often than not, and put themselves in a position to challenge for a flag than not.

Hinkley has a 5-5 record in finals, and 3 of those are less than a goal (3, 2, 6), and 3 in Prelim Finals (3, 6, 71) - That's not the worst record.. yeah hasn't converted to a GF or flag yet, but it's not often like last week where they just get totally pantsed by a "Top 4" side.

Clueless.

St Kilda, Western Bulldogs and Collingwood all played finals in 2020, is it our fault they dropped off?

You finished top yet you get double ups against 6,7,8

That is a soft draw

Clarkson 26 finals 16 wins 4 flags 5 gfs
Hardwick 15 finals 10 wins 3 flags 3 gfs
Simpson 12 finals 7 wins 1 flag 2 gfs
Beveridge 10 finals 7 wins 1 flag 2 gfs
Goodwin 5 finals 4 wins 0 flags 1 gf

Certainly not impossible

More often than not, the exception not the rule.. and the two at the top have been fortunate to be at the helm of very strong units in a golden period for their clubs.

Or they were good at what they did, read the game well, and adopted a game plan that would be successful when it counted.

Hawthorn had the beauty of the expansion clubs joining and the talent pool being severely limited by Gold Coast and GWS's inclusion. Yes, they did a lot right, recruited well ( easier to do when you're at the top ) but there's no denying they were in the right spot, at the right time. Like Centrals post Port Adelaide's AFL entry, after losing '95 and '96 they had the hunger and the talent to go to the next level, Port dropped when our SANFL side was taken to pieces and Centrals, like Hawthorn, were in the right spot and recruited well because of their ladder position.

Yep Hawthorn were indeed in the right spot at the right time. But to put the success down to that and that alone is a little unfair. Let's remember where Hawthorn were when Clarkson took over....

Going back to your bloke though..... I just don't see he has a game plan beyond plan A. Clarkson had A, B, C & D, and the players knew when to make the switch between each of them. They adapted, as games unfolded. I don't see that quality in your coach, or your players........ yet.

You didn't watch the game v the Bulldogs in round 23 then. They jumped us, had 4 goals to nothing, we countered it, the players executed the plan and we got the spoils.

Correct, I didn't.
Begs the question why they didn't do "it" or something along the same lines on Friday night to arrest the situation against the same opposition...

How often have we had to say that this year?

Anyone able to post our 1/4 time stats over the year? I'd imagine it's terrible reading.
