Essendon are ******. They will pay massive overs for this bloke who is now become a poor man's Watson. What position has he made his own? Half bank flanker? Forward? Inside mid?

Goddard was a gun a few years back but is now an angry man a la Matty Scarlett.

Reports of 750-800k

I think the club is just trying to make a statement. The club has usually always gone with its own and generally dont attract big name players from other clubs. I think we only have 1 player on our list that is a recycled player where as most clubs have at least 4-5. By attracting a big player the club thinks it is the first step in returning to a force.
Wouldnt be surprised if we had a decent crack and picked up 2-3 players in free agency

Didn't the club 'make a statement' by hiring Hird, McCartney and Bomber? Now they've just thrown more cash around in the wrong direction. This is the stuff of 44 year premiership droughts. The signs are unmistakeable.

I believe with McVeigh retiring and Hille and Monfries on their way out we are going to be well under the cap. All of our so càlled gun players are signed long term so we have to spend the money anyway.
I actually think Goddard could be ok, he would instantly be one of our top 5 players and is still a decent player IMO.
The club believes the premiership window is open and we can seriously challenge in the next 2-3 years, Goddard may just be the missing link

Bazzinga. So of what we can expect this week.

Goddard (restricted) to Essendon:
Its starts today. What is expected alledgely of course is that Goddard is expected to have the deal from Essendon today for 4 years. The Saints have 2 or 3 days to come back at. So it will be official on Wednesday I believe if the saints can't or unwilling to match the offer.

Lynch (un restricted) to Collingwood:
Surprising as it maybe that the pies have enough room in the cap, but still this is also expected to be tabled today and probably finalised ASAP as no right of offer is required for a un restricted free agent.

Chaplin (restricted) to Richmond:
This is expected to take a few more days to have the paper work sorted. Expect this to start around Wednesday.

Maloney (un restricted) to Essendon:
Still on the cards but dates are not known at the moment.

Monfries (restricted) Link to Port now:
Port seem to have bobbed up now and apparently havea 4 year deal on the table for him. No idea what his moves will be or when this is expected to play out.

Rivers (un restricted) to Geelong:
Only pure bullshite and speculation that I have gotten from Twitter...just a possibility.

Salopek (un restricted) to test the waters. Havent heard much but what I have heard is that there are a couple of vic clubs willing to have a look at least.

Yur missing link is depth. At the start of the year with all you guns firing you were good and very competative but once the injuries started and the season is long, you struggle. Losing Monfries, McViegh and Hille will hurt your depth, I believe you will get Goddard which is a good get and then Maloney to add depth to the middle, so its a start, but still depth is the issue.

Does the player get any say in the decision? For example could he opt to stay at St Kilda for a lower salary than Essendon might offer?

Its the players choice because Goodard has told his manager that he wants to go to Essendon and if Saints match the offer he can still chose to leave by going in the pre season draft

Thanks for that. In general, though, does the player have a say in who he goes to under the free agent system?
