Realistically crap. We were 3 points away from prelim

Read my post correctly, I said top 5
The rest of us didnt deserve to play finals

Yep fair enough stand corrected

Speaking of Judd, he was very poor tonight, Carlton simply don't help him out enough or he is playing injured.

Um where did i say he was poor.....ok i should have highlighted this: "Carlton simply don't help him out enough or he is playing injured".

I thought that particular comment was harsh on selwood, that is all. Make sense?

Sorry Valleys, my apologies it wasn't you!!!! It was Squids. I misread his quote as yours. SORRY!

We've covered for him in recent times better when he's tagged heavily. Last year, when he was tagged well, we were stuffed. Tonight, Murphy was also held and that made things much more difficult to get drive from the centre.

 Phew thought i was losing my ability to read my own posts!

I thought murphy was brilliant early, and i think it was the other selwood that shut him down.

Where to for carlton from here? What in people's opinions will take carlton to a prelim, possibly grand final side?

For me Kreuzer would have made a big differance, Cox was awesome tonight.
Still think you need another tall forward, Kreuzer could have dropped back tonight, just look too small in forward line.
Cant believe Carlton didnt put a hard tag on Kerr, one of the best players in the league and a finals specialist. Embley was another good finals player that Carlton let run free.
Lost by under a kick in the West so not a bad season, would be kicking themselves for losing top 4 spot after being there for long periods during the year

Yeh, sorry Valleys, I did see "red" at the post and immediately hit reply without reading it properly. Humblest apologies.

Our problem is that we need our best 22 on the park to win a semi/prelim final (right now). Our depth has grown this year, with Laider and Duigan having breakout years and Yarran being moved to defence. We don't have the depth that some other clubs have, like Geelong and Collingwood and hence when injuries hit our key defensive posts or key forwards, we're in trouble. If we had Gibbs, Kruezer and Waite in we might've won, but then our balance also might've been out....so who knows. I thought we needed to take Hampson into tonights game just to have a marking target that Betts and Garlett could crumb to but then I'm not coach am I?

For us to make the next step, we need a fit Brian Lake type. Not Brian Lake necessarily, but a player like him (when fit). Also, someone to take a grab, or bring it down. I wonder what Josh Kennedy (WCE version) is doing next year? :-)

IMO, those 2 in particular would have seen you preparing for next week.

Gibbs as that extra defender for the nippy forward (when nicoski got watched tonight thats when lecras became influential) and Kruezer would have been huge as that marking forward / rotating ruck (warnock was out on his feet late in the match and thornton going down didnt help.

I think carlton will be top 4 next year. Like you said though, luck with injuries will be a big factor....

I should add that that actually goes for every team, every season. You need a shizen load of luck to win a premiership. We didn't have the worst of luck but losing Jamo through the year was terrible for us, although Henderson shone. But then it meant we were one down in attack. Then Waite went down and we had to make do with a running forward line. Then Hampson went down when Warnock was injured. I'm not whinging, just saying that we seemed to be patching our team together. Something that, if we were able to have a deep roster, wouldn't affect us as much as the top two sides.

To even the comp up a bit otherwise Geelong would win every premiership. ;)

Seriously though, it simply doesn't hold enough.
Mind you they did play at least one final at the Gabba when it held less than KP currently does but they didn't have much choice unlike in Victoria I suppose.

It's hard to say an accident in the second term cost game
There would've been a few things from both sides that could've made the difference.

Stupid free kick when eagles kicked 3 in a row before it.
What a game tho. Haven't been that nervous at the end of a game since our last 2 grand fibals

I thought the umpiring reverted to H&A-like umpiring (which affected both teams). There were too many soft free kicks that you would not normally expect to see in a final. Which brings me to another point, why do the umpires put away the whistle in finals, particularly the GF? It irks the **** out of me. There is one set of rules, however the interpretation changes significantly on GF day. Has 'The Giesch' ever come out and explained this phenomenon?

Having said that, even though I was cheering for Carlton, I'm not upset that Walker wasn't awarded a free in the last minutes. Even though the way the game was umpired it probably should've constituted a free, I wonder what the decision might have been if it happened down the other end?
