In my last visit to site the boom lifts were half way up the top tier of the stand with the men inside working on the roof panels...

Not for me.

If it was for you they would be called Boon Gates.

Well a couple of days time we will find out if the SANFL and the SACA will have enough cash to get it all done.

Maybe if the Bid fails they can still get the cash through Lowy and develop a Westfield on the Western side of the ground.

Looks like Auntie Julia wont be dipping into the Federal purse for the funds now that the World Cup bid has fallen over. Considering the massive drop in GST revenue to the state and the usual whinging from both governments about the GFC, one would suggest that little more will be done to Adelaide Oval from what it is now.

Soj, Pat Conlon said on radio the other day that the AO redevelopment was not contingent on the outcome of the World Cup bid. The funds are already allocated he said.

I think it's full steam ahead still based also on comments from Ian MacLachlan on radio this morning. He said the proposal goes to the SACA members to vote early next year.

We'll see I guess.

We will end up with a poverty pack oval. State government cant afford it and foley couldnt lie straight in bed. To say it wont affect the development is crap.

I gather the state's unfunded Superannuation liability is back to about the $7 billion odd it was under John Bannon, and that's why all the recent changes have been made to the public service by the Rann government.
Since there can't be a sell off of utilities this time, the public service will have to be slashed after these preliminary changes to tenure have been established.

In those circumstances I don't think the Adelaide Oval redevelopment will go ahead without federal grants, which I don't expect will happen as they have their own financial issues..

Between the state debt and the current federal spending pattern, I think we will soon find ourselves reliving the late 1980s and early 1990s.
I expect also that the Liberals will again inherit the job of being in government to clean up the mess, then cop the blame for the austerity from the blind supporters of the fiscally irresponsible ALP.

There were 38,000 there yesterday ... so the government is going to spend $535M for about 12,000 more seats???

Give me a break, can the bastard and spend the dough elsewhere.

Don't know the answer myself, but how many of those 38k were "out the back"?

I'd assume for footy you wouldn't get anywhere near that many who only go to sit in tents and not watch the sport at all, so as far as seats go, it could be as many as 20,000 more.

So we are all assuming Mr.Foley and his numbers are sound  , or.....are we willing to wait until he and Mr.Rann are dethroned and find out exactly what the cost will be?

I agree on that one. The oval is as good as it will get. Port to play home games at adelaide oval( they still wont fill it) and the cows can stay at their beloved aami. Just get a bloody train line to aami and its good for another 30 years
