Crows vs Hawks

Talk on the national game

I was critical of the Buddy v Massie move,

now the emotion has settled, I don't believe the crows had any other alternatives, Buddy's speed is unbelievable

the only other possible alternative was Gill

Again, Adelaides game plan will be criticised, however, you develop a game plan to suit the cattle at your disposal, everyone always comments that Adelaide's list is not as strong as other clubs, most predicted adelaide not to make the finals in 2007, so maybe reality is the Crows are punching above their weight.

This season Adelaide had more injuries then any other club, even Melbourne, other clubs like melbourne this season and Essendon in 2006 went to water and won 3 games and blamed injuries, at least Adelaide grinded their teeth and had a crack and never used injuries as an excuse and made the finals

Adelaide's list will change, this will enable changes to their game plan, only one team this year will be able to claim that they have the right game plan, the other 15 teams wll all be searching for new answers

Sometimes players just have a day out and you just have to hope you can hold the other players around him

That's the beauty of having > 1 talented big forwards - you can't hold everybody. Unfortunately for the Crows Gill didn't have a big day, McGregor faded and Welsh only came into it late in the game.

the advantage of a power forward like Buddy is that they can win games of their own boot, just like today, when they are on song, they are tough to beat, however, if they have a bad day out, the entire team structure and game plan can fall over

unfortunately for the Crows, Buddy had a day out, I'm not sure any defender in the league would of stopped him today

You're having a pull. Most people predicted Adelaide to be in the top 2.

Nah I have a copy of the pre-season media guide and most predicted Freo/West Coast/Sydney/Bulldogs

Crows were up there in some people's tips but nowhere near a consensus

Personally, I thought top 4 tho I must admit

Proplyzia, Van Berlo and Knights have consolidated their spots and will improve again next year

My point on Griffen and Maric, hopefully they can put on some more muscle over the summer, this will bring added confidence

Douglas, next year needs to be his year and play majority of games for the Crows rather then the SANFL, Phiffier is another talented kid that needs to deliver next season

As a supporter, I am banking that our improvement will come from these 6 players, I see no reason's why it should not be the case

All the youngsters in the league will improve with another preseason and continued work on their skills, so to say that if those 6 players improve, the Crows will improve, is a bit off the mark. I think there are two important questions: 1- What are the Crows doing that will fast track those players developments quicker than other clubs are developing their youngsters? 2- What will the Crows bring into their club to help solve the problems they are currently having?

You idiot mal. You are selling the Crows very short there. Had Franklin missed the last shot at goal would you have written the Cows off next week?

Maric, Griffen, Van Berlo, Knights, Douglas and Proplyzia will be the key players moving forward, as the crows will build their on ball brigade around these blokes for years to come

Yes i am having a pull cos my side is still alive. Very little chance of doing serious damage but at least i realise that. Shame the Cows fans who kept banging on about how much they were going to flog Hawthorn by and how they had a prelim final date with Port didn't realise that the only thing stopping them is that they are not very good.

That not very good side was 30 seconds away from winning

Where does that leave the Hawks? "Still in the finals" you'll say back :D

I have argued with Sojourner before about this S-D

Sojourner is a Gary Aryes fan still upset about what happened in 2004 if that helps put things in perspective - conistent Neil Craig basher (with some mates) who likes to use low days for the AFC to remind us all how terrible a coach Craig is. Very, very quiet on the good days of course .....

Neil Craig still never missed a finals series when senior AFL coach for a full season. 3 points may as well be 3,000 points in a final unfortunately.

Sojourner also said he was a Crows fan at the beginning of the year but changed over to Geelong mid year!!!!

You conveniently left out one sentence in my quote Hondo. The key being this:

Yeah, I agree with you, but I was also asking what the Crows will do to fast track those players quicker than other clubs develop their players. All clubs have younger players that will be the basis of their team for the years to come, but that wont be enough for the Crows to return to the top of the ladder. Are those young players better than other clubs young players? Will their development be quick enough to prevent a slide down the ladder in the meantime?

You have forward line issues. Is Gill the answer? Will Hentschel coming back solve issues? Will Welsh step up another level? I think its your forward line that is your key to large amounts of improvement.

What will the Crows bring to the club that will improve them. Development of current players will not be enough. Look at any teams list from 3-4 years ago, and look at the players on that list that were in the category of Maric, Griffen, Van Berlo, Knights, Douglas and Proplyzia, and see if their development has been the key to their teams fortunes. Partly the answer will be yes, but as importantly, if not more, it will be the players who weren't on that list and have come to the club that have been the reason they improved. What do the Crows need to do in terms of the draft and trades, to improve them?
