Port 2014 - Pre-Season/General Discussion

Talk on the national game

Port will beat Fremantle this week.

Ballantyne, Barlow in doubt with other key players really struggling.

Tell me how no players got suspended this week? (Hawkins and Sandilands surely had cases to answer)

Hawkins deservedly let off.
Nothing wrong with a couple of jumper punches, should be more of it

Think most footy supporters agree, just need for it to be consistently judged that way

If he didn't have hold of his jumper and threw the punches with the same force he would of got games. I can't understand how have hold of someone's jumper gets him off

Disagree. Port look fantastic whenever they are allowed to play their game. However I can't see Freo letting Port play their game. Freo played well at Cat park and did very well to against Hawthorn and Port. So they can't beat Port at home becuase they lost to Sydney in Sydney? The lack of pressure that Richmond applied to Port was laughable. Freo will be all over them this week and Port will come up short.

Have to agree at this early stage REB. Its too easy to get caught up in elimination final wins vs qualifying final losses. 2012 is a prime example:

That year WCE won their elimination final by 15 goals against North, and were trounced by Collingwood the week after. Adelaide, who had suffered a disappointing loss against Sydney, come out and beat a Fremantle side, cock-a-hoop after an impressive win against Geelong.

I do believe that If any side can challenge the Top 4, it is Port. However, the top 4 sides are there for a reason- and Ill be expecting the Cats/Dockers to earn their rights to a preliminary final.

On another note- today marks the 2nd anniversary of John McCarthy's passing.

Glad to see his memory still shines through the playing group- I'm hoping he can inspire the boys to get the job done this weekend and beyond.

Trounced, by definition Pup, is synonymous with overcome.

Collingwood came from behind that night to beat West Coast after trailing at half time. Hence the use of the word.

That I now agree with- my explanation is based on why I used the word.

Believe it or not, Trounced is a synonym with overcome. That's why I used it.

By definition as you have listed, it does mean crushed also.

Anyway im not going to get into grammatical arguments with people. Grammar is hardly a strong point of mine (clearly  )!

Anyway the point stands- its unlikely for elimination final victors to progress beyond the 2nd week of the finals.
