Yeah i'm fairly sure Robert Shaw was primarily responsible for recruiting Connell (in Shaw's first year in 95), may even have been some type of family connection there.

If Pavlich stays I guess Adelaide may have to bite the bullet and give away a first 18 player or two to get "THE "forward .After so many attemps ( Burns,Fitzgerald,Carey,Welsh,Richardson for example ) they just have not got the "BIG TIME" man they have wanted for years it seems. The Hawks have had the same problem with Ruckmen having to trade away to get Salmon then Rehn then Everitt while picking Ruckmen in the draft for them not to make the grade and having to trade just so they had one the next year.Established players (100+ gamers) like Ben Allan,Jade Rawlings,Jon Hay,Nathan Thompson and Daniel Chick were all involved in deals and swaps that plugged the gap that just had to be filled .

Another Adelaide win preceding that was getting Robran back also for free(unsure of that one...Randall Bone????).I know that he had to sit out a year but Hawthorn traded Rodney Eade,Ken Judge,Rod Lester-Smith and Dale (Australian Survivor winner)Dixon to Brisbane to get the Robran deal done .

Robran sat out a year after leaving Hawthorn IIRC,to do with his draft 'tampering'.He was then drafted by Adelaide.(?)
If you want to go quickly, go alone.

If you want to go far, go together.

As far as I can tell off a quick internet search Robran was still traded to the Crows by Hawthorn despite the fact he sat out a year in 1992 because Hawthorn wouldn't release him. He was there in 1993 I remember that much at least.

I dont think "tampering " is fair .He was not happy and after such an investment was made to get him the Hawks stood firm and he wasn't allowd to play anywhere .It just didn't work out .Robran was not trying to do a Brett Chalmers .He missed the '91 flag winning side when Brereton returned after being injured in the 1st week of the finals for the Grand Final after Robran did quite well in the other final they played. There just wasn't a spot for him and he was probably very disappointed.

Have heard from a good source that Pavlich is very reluctant to leave Freo because of the What if.... scenario. That is what if freo win a flag and he is not there. In addition to this the Crows and Port are not in his thinking and the only club he will consider is the Collingwood Football Club.
