One thing thats gone through my mind is, if Chocco Williams said he wanted to put an emphesis on recruiting full blood Aboriginals (which would make his recruiting structure bias against caucasian kids), would there be an uproar, or backlash?

Personally, I dont think so.

I dont want AFL teams to recruit any based on anything except football ability, and all the things that you NEED to PLAY entertaining football. Because in the end, thats what AFL is, entertainment.

Fevola can has talent, can play and is entertaining, but does that mean you would recruit him?

Rendell is the scapegoat no doubt, Trigg as far as i'm concerned is the puppet of Demetrious.
What a joke that AFC is led by Trigg, they hung him ( Rendell ) out to dry full stop instead of trying to defend him.
Why doesn't Trigg just say it? very poor form i say.

There seems to be a difference between being a racist, and being racist.

If that makes sense.

I really wish I was a fly on the wall to get a feel for the context of the conversation.

Or, I wish I knew about the conversation when I saw Andy D in my office when he was here after finding out when I was setting up a presentation for him and Leigh W. Haha. I would've grilled him.

Then got sacked.

(although my boss would've sacked me - Andy would just advise it)

Could not have said it better. The whole thing stinks. I wouldn't trust those two Dimwitriou & Frigg as far as I can throw them.

Disgraceful effort by the Crows and AFL on this one.

Rendell said that what he said was taken out of context, I was thinking in what context is what he was saying correct? The person he was speaking with was indigenous himself, why would he think that these comments wouldn't offend him?

In my opinion it is like sitting at a table with a fat person and making comments about the eating habits of another fat person across the room, then turning to the fat person at your table and saying "oh no offence". That doesn't make it right in any forum.

People have said that the AFC hung him out to dry, what else could they do? If they came out in support of Rendell and said that they didn't agree with his comments but accepted his side of the story and move on etc, next year at draft time and they have to make a call on an indigenous player and they chose someone else they will be labelled racist themselves and this will come up again. What was said in private could have been kept that way but it wasn't and I don't think that they really had any other choice once it was made public.

Everything we say in our day to day life has consequences, If I said a racist remark at any work related function/meeting I would be shown the door just the same. If something you say to someone offends them, then it is offensive. Some people have thicker skin than others and can handle more while others just wont stand for it.

My issue is that it appears there's more merit in what he said, as in with context, than other racism that's happened over the years (and even recently) which hasn't lead to people being sacked.

Rendell had a view and an opinion - based on his thoughts. I don't think his thoughts were racist. I guess I'll have to wait until I read more.

Justin Sherman was banned for 4 games for what I consider something worse.

Agreed Sherman did say worse, but Sherman is not the head recruiter for a side. Rendell's job is to recruit footballers and his comments lead people to think that he will base his decisions on race rather than ability. Even if he didnt mean it like it sounded or would ever use it in a decision he makes, he said it and every other decision he makes in the future would be questioned because of it. In this case his views and opinions are relevant because it is his job to have them on footballers.

I guess the Aboriginal kids he's recruited don't come into thinking then.

I do feel for him but I just dont think that he left the club with much choice, I dont think he is a racist at all, just made a dumb comment at the wrong time. Clearly what he has said isnt the way he thinks based on his past recruiting which just makes what he said all the more dumber. My opinion is just that he should have thought about what he was saying and who he was saying it to before he opened his mouth. He didnt and now has suffered. Sometimes you just only get the one chance.

The main problems are that-
It was made public, by the AFL before Adelaide had reasonable time to deal with it.
Rendell never had a valid right of reply to try to keep his job.
It has been mentioned by Mifsud that there were 3-4 other rogue recruiters of the similar opinion as Rendell, who are they, which club and when are they to be sacked???????
The AFL has taken 6 weeks to inform Trigg, 6 WEEKS! For something that has supposedly offended two AFL employees greatly. As soon as Trigg has been informed Demitriou has immediately let it out into the public and given Trigg f-all time to sort it out and in that time Mifsud is uncontactable?????
Either a total set up or managed by incompetent idiots.
I doubt he's the type but if I was Rendell I'd be looking at legal action.

As I mentioned before. Unprofessional from AFL behalf and Trigg was shot either way he went. Even if the Crows stood by him NO MATTER IF HE IS 100% IN THE CLEAR there still would be a pocket in the general public who will deem the club racist. Much more water to go under the bridge yet. AFL HO disgraceful and a B grade organisation.

Using your theory though, was this a meeting where the pair were discussing recruiting issues and the future of recruiting?
If you were making comments about the eating habits of fat people at a health meeting, then the fat person should know those comments were being made in a professional context, shouldn't they?
