West Lakes i have to drive to Bay then get the shuttle from outside Bay oval.

So much effort, can't drink, takes time.

The people that come out the woodwork for AO games will amaze even the most pessimistic posters on here.

This green light will unlock a huge door for neutral, busy, lifestyle conscious fans from all over Adelaide.

Then throw in a footbridge, casino, river precinct just as a bonus... can you all not see how great this will be!!!!!!!!

If you had youngish children would you be taking them to Adelaide Train Station at 11pm on a Friday/Saturday night to get on a train.

Didn't think of that...

Is Adelaide that bad, alot of Melbourne crowds ALA MCG have kids at major train stations?

Could be an oppurtunity to weed out the scum.. extra security... ?

Do you work in the Treasury Department then? You seem to have an intimate knowledge of the state budget, as well as tendering processes. I reckon you'd have to be there. With Dutchy maybe? And May-Z and Heater?

Would be great if that could happen, i would be all for that!!!

Slightly different in Melbourne because they have so many different train stations so you dont get all the intoxicated people heading to the one place and its surrounding area.

Yeah the train station is pretty bad these days especially around last train home time. I reckon if you sat down there this Saturday night around 10:30 within half an hour you would see an incident that you wouldnt want children anywhere near.

I really hope they get the AO transport situation right, it will be amazing to go to AO if they do.

Lads it is there in black and white, taxpayer dollars will be used to build the footbridge. Don't for one second think that they would foot the bill for this if they don't get these conditions. The vast majority of AO attendees already move past the Casino anyway so it is a grab for more concessions under the guise of public interest.

It has already been reported earlier this week, admittedly it was The Advertiser so could be wrong, that the footbridge will be part of the Convention Centre riverfront upgrade.

Where evidence are you basing that on.

Interestingly SANFL crowds are about the same for AO matches as they are for suburban matches if not less on a few occasions.

As Dutchy said Port Power fans from the heartland of the Port will now be further away from the stadium they play at.

I thought part of the problem Port had with footy park was they felt it was more The crows ground then ports?

Will AO feel more like home than footy park! Even when the Crows will be playing all their home games there and the SANFL will also have teams playing games there.

Which already has its own $400m set aside for it by the government.

Also are alot of families going to like having their children in the 'city' on a Saturday night around 11:00 when games finish, especially if families are going to have to walk distances to get to the ground.

Where is all the car parking space needed going to come from. Carparking at AO is terrible even when its a 10k crowd for SANFL finals.

Still think it is easier to get from the northern suburbs to Adelaide, rather than footy park.

Not really for AFL games,

-The Footy express bus is very simple and effective, there are pick up points at Gawler, Elizabeth, Salisbury, will be no different to AO if they have an express bus.

-By public transport AO is a million times easier than footy park for sure but i dont know if i would like to be catching public transport back to Elizabeth at 10:30-11:00pm on a Friday / Saturday night, especially if i had my children with me.

-By own transport i would say West Lakes is easier to get to. AO is obviously an easier drive as its one road. BUT traffic is extremly heavy, if there is any road works on the main north road your trip time is extended. West Lakes has many different avenues to get there and the traffic is less heavy.
AO with a 10k crowd for SANFL finals takes about the same time as it takes to get to West Lakes with a 35K SANFL grand final crowd.
Then once you get there parking is a million miles easier at West Lakes, shops are close by if you need something from there, and there are food outlets around if you need a bite to eat, all within a 5 minute walk.

I forgot about the express way that now make West Lakes a hell of a lot quicker to get to than AO.

From my house in Munno Para West i can get to Port Adelaide within 15-20 minutes at most doing to the speed limit the whole way.

Regardless of whether you think it will be longer for Northerners whufc - what about those coming from the South and East?

I go from the hills on the Footy Express, and at times it's excruciating. Saturday night they had Port Rd down to 1 lane for roadworks and it took us over 2 hours to get home.

AO will be infinitely easier for Hills & Southern residents. We no longer have to cross town, and the Southernites can now catch the train, easy peasy.

Get to the city early, have a nice meal and a couple of beers, then wander down to the ground, crossing over the footbridge that proxys built. ;)

True im not sure how i affects people from the South or the East.

Though the Northern Suburbs is the fastest growing area in South Australia so it could have a major impact for a fair portion of people in 5 years once the Playford Alive, Playford Waters, Blakes Crossing, Munno Para West, Angle Vale housing develepoments are done.

Especially considering the Northern Suburbs has the highest amount of teenagers populated in the state as well.

Yeah, but they'd be too busy raising kids to have time to go to the footy

If you had youngish children would you be taking them to Adelaide Train Station at 11pm on a Friday/Saturday night to get on a train.

That won't be a problem because of the amount of people who'll be doing the same thing. Crims like quiet train stations and back alleys. No witnesses that way.

True,

but the problem in Adelaide is that there is only 1 city train station so everyone leaving from the city has to meet there.

That includes the p**s heads/drunks/druggies/gang'stars' and all round ferals who are looking to get the last trains home.

I think you will find there will be increased security for these games so youre making alot out of nothing. I cant wait to get on the train to get home and i can choose what time i want to arrive and leave for the game not like it currently is.

I have caught the last train home on a number of occasions and not once have I seen any trouble. Yes there are a few drunk people about but you get that walking down the street. I'm not saying it doesn't happen, I have heard stories, but I have never witnessed it.
