Mark Harvey has had his contract extended until the end of 2012. Can't provide a link to the story from my phone though.

What makes you say that?
It's all the SANFL's fault.

How many times have sides fallen away a bit when a coach's contract has been extended. There have been more than a few over the years. I reckon 2010 is not Freo's year and that it will be next year that they challenge for the top four. This year I reckon you'll win a home elim final and lose on the road to a top four Victorian team.

The good news for you blokes is that I've been wrong so many times in the past so you could be in like Flynn!

According the local media, the main reason for doing it wasn't the current position on the ladder but to create stability in the club with a couple of players out of contract and supposedly being chased by Gold Coast.

Thought you were questioning Harvey's ability as coach.
It's all the SANFL's fault.

Ouch. Barlow going down* will hurt any finals aspirations the purple haze had. They will still play finals but one of their major ball winners and key running men is now gone for who knows how long.

Not often a first year rookie impacts upon a side like Barlow has and they will seriously miss him.

Ironically Rhys Palmer was back in form yesterday.

Pretty sombre mood after the game. It's unusual for a first year player to have such an impact not only on but off the field the field as well. No one has a bad word to say about the bloke.
It's all the SANFL's fault.

Barlow will be lucky to be back next year- I'm speculating a return in 2012 would be optimistic.
I wish him all the best with recovery & hope he returns, but this is not an injury that's easily overcome.

He'll be right for next year no problems.

For his sake barto, I hope you're right. Remember though that Nathan Brown never "got back".

I don't share your optimism Barto- my partner broke her leg over 12 months ago & still has a steel rod in her leg.
When it gets removed, there is more re-hab work involved.
I hope he can return.

Not sure if you're getting the same coverage over there but Nathan Brown has been quoted in the media here as saying he rushed back and that was the cause of all his issues.

Barlow will be right for the pre-season, in fact his pre-season starts now in a way. The break is clean and there's no muscle damage which is the main issue in getting back to full flight.

Physiologically, there's no reason why he cant be at full fitness for next season. If the character he's shown just to get into the AFL is any indication, then psychologically he'll be fine as well.
It's all the SANFL's fault.

What kind of break was it though? Which bone in the leg and what position was it? Was the muscle fascia damaged? Was there further complications down the kinetic chain? There's all different kinds of variables in these things.

There are alot of variables, we had a bloke at Modbury who did the double bone break and it came out the skin in i think round 15 or so. He was walking on it a week later and has played all year no worries.
