In the late 1990s (1998) Hocking was part of a promotion with cat-food company Whiskas, where for a short period of time he changed his name by deed-poll to "Whiskas". He announced this on The Footy Show. This was to help lessen the financial burden that the Geelong Football Club was facing at the time.

Hocking coached Peel Thunder for a while. There seems to be little mention of this.

During one game he moved every single player into the oppositions forward line. Didn't even have any players in the centre to take the bounce.
It's all the SANFL's fault.

I loved him as a player but from what I've heard he leaves a lot to be desired as a coaching staff.
Good luck to Whiskas in his venture though.

As was just stated the actuall outcome was that Geelong was able to revieve a sizable benifit from it. Im pretty sure it was at a time when, as SS has stated, were in a challenging position and this help quite a bit.
So all that the exercise really achieved was a player putting himself out to help out the club in a big way, and by put out I mean thats a pretty fricken big thing to do. So

Geelong's debt was caused by the building of the then new Brownlow stand and the Ford Stand. Geelong had to get loans to make these happen. The AFL didn't help Geelong with funding for these stands. Geelong had bounced back from our lowest point in 1999. We lost our Captain, Coach, bank nearly everything. It is great to see the Cats have bounced back since our grand final loses of the early 90's and entering a golden period. The problem with Port is just that it is Port. They are a club that you were either bred to love them or hate them. The SANFL screwed up with this, They should have split the crows amongst 4 clubs and the new club with 4 clubs and a mixture with the remaining clubs but the SANFl didn't look at this.

I think it was too late in 1996 to do this. That should have been done in 1990 or not at all. By 1996 the Crows had stolen too much momentum from a potential second composite team.

Where I think the SANFL screwed up (in hindsight) was in not letting Port do what it apparently wanted to do and it's members voted to do. That being to leave the SANFL altogether and move into the AFL. Instead, they set up two "Port Adelaide"s which has split the supporter base, alienated the PAMFC out at Ethelton and caused all sorts of problems including the pointless and endless debates about which Port Adelaide is which. I reckon Port had enough supporters at the time to keep an AFL team healthy so long as those supporters only had 1 team to support and hand over their money to.

I don't think we'll ever see a new AFL team set up like that again. I reckon hard lessons have been learnt. Any CDFC fan that has similar aspirations for their club will need to get their heads around it meaning the end of their participation in the SANFL (not that I think that will ever happen).

Not that we can go back in time and change it and not that I have the answer to it now other than persisting with the decision and making the best of it, if possible.

Whisper is that Cameron Cloke is set to walk out on the Blues and sign a 3 year deal at Port  Would be a wise career move as he only has a 1 year offer with the Blues.

He was shown the door last week. Hawthorn, with only two experienced specialist ruckmen fit, is on his trail.

Took a sensational mark against the Crows at Docklands a few years ago - which would be about the sum total of his career thus far.
