Yeah I tossed a coin, and it landed on it's side...I thought I barracked for Essendon then

LOL, Port won't keep losing... You'd be pretty happy with Melbourne's form - saving you a bottle at the minute.

Looking forward to Saturday night...

Here you go Dutchy i'll answer your question just in case FD88 doesn't. I'll also answer in relation to the context it was asked.

Yes. Hawthorn has talent and a lot of it. The Kangaroos do have talent but nowhere near what Hawthorn have and what the Roos did in the finals last year proved that talent alone does not win games of football (particularly finals). Your mob beat Hawthorn because they were more committed, more disciplined and more desperate. A lot to like about that as a supporter but realistically North Melbourne doesn't have the talent of many other sides in the comp. That isn't to say they aren't capable of finishing top 4 again or even going further. Attitude beats ability more often than not.

Even Chocco and Chad in interviews have said they were lucky with circumstances last season and that a GF appearance was way above their expectations given where the team was at. By good fortune they mean the draw (got to play bottom 4 teams twice ... cue Booney  ), avoiding Geelong until the GF, few injuries and some youngsters having way more impact than planned.

They have never come out and said they were categorically the second best team in 2008 - why are Port supporters trying so hard to convince everyone :? A side that was clearly second best would have got closer than 20 goals. Not rubbing it in, just being realistic as the Club seems to be. If Port were second best where did that put the Crows who beat them twice and looked clearly the better team both times.

This doesn't mean they didn't deserve to be there, well done on making it. Also doesn't mean they weren't one of the top clubs of the season.

But 2007 was all about 1 side and following them was a closely matched pack of 8 or so IMO. FWIW, the Cats still look like they play in a higher comp during the week and drop in to the AFL each weekend for a practice run :D
In between signatures .....

IMHO, Collingwood were clearly the second best team in the AFL in 2007. They were only one straight kick away from eliminating Geelong in the Preliminary Final, and had they got there, would have won the flag.

As for Port, I think they are missing the hard nuts (Francou, Hardwick, Carr etc) from the 2004 premiership team and currently have way too many receivers. Williams needs to develop a game plan where they can lock down a team instead of allowing their opponent to run all over them.

I honestly feel this current Port team can't win a flag unless they come up with something we haven't seen before.

No I dont always believe the best sides play off in the GF, the Crows failing to get there twice in a row proved that. In Ports case though they were the 2nd best team last year.

They finished 2nd on the ladder. They beat Geelong two weeks before the finals. They beat West Coast during the finals and thrashed them during the year. They thrashed the Kangaroos in the finals and beat them during the year. Thats the top 4 teams.

From the rest: We beat Collingwood during the year. We beat Hawthorn just before the finals. The only two finals sides we didnt beat during the year were Sydney and Adelaide who finished 7th and 8th.

Its easy to say 'Collingwood lost to Geelong by less' but its a very simplistic and false view to have. Geelong would have thrashed anyone on GF day.

and didnt the crows beat collingwood in the last minor round before losing by less than a kick to the hawks. Not bad for a team not expected to make the finals any way. IF and I say if, the crows had beaten the hawks that day, they would have had the dream run to the granny, only to get the hiding the cats gave out.........

Dont agree with that. The first match Port had more scoring shots but kicked 8.15. The second match Port led for all bar the last 10 minutes of the match.

In terms of the draw, you can only play who you get drawn to play. You dont know in advance whos gonna be shit (in a way). We only played Bulldogs once.

For those tooting Collingwoods 2007 horn, they played 4 of the bottom 5 teams twice (Richmond, Carlton, Melbourne, Essendon), but that never gets brought into the equation. Kangaroos played 5/6 possible games against the bottom 3 clubs.

So really, thats a moot point.

Didn't Collingwood lose to Richmond last year, and also the Lions by 15 goals at the MCG last year?? I don't think they'd get too many points for that..

I certainly do NM, i'm just saying that Collingwood didn't have the great year that a few people on here seem to think he did. They had a good year but i think those 2 losses indicate they aren't worthy of the title of second best for the year.

would have thought that the team losing the gf was the second best team for the year; after all they finish second on the ladder that counts.

Shock defeats are common, look at West Coast getting smashed by Adelaide & look at Port beating Geelong last year!
Collingwood were 3rd best.
