Talk on the national game

He's got the Goodes.

Postby Booney » Thu Sep 15, 2011 1:47 pm

I wanted to pay tribute to one brilliant footballer who this week becomes the only player to reach 300 games in his 13th season. A remarkable display of durability.

Adam Goodes, two time Brownlow Medallist, Premiership player, three time All Australian, Indigenous Team of the century, AFL Rising Star 1999. This bloke has the goodes.

One bloke who you would love to have in your team and one who we can all sit back and appreciate watching.

Well played Goodesy, well played.

Not at all inconceivable he could make it to 350 games also, at 31 years of age. One of those rare players that is worth the price of admission alone and also epitomises the tag of "fairest", could count on one hand the number of times he has been anything other than exemplary on field.

Also to go from being a freakish ruckman to key position player and then to midfielder. He is the bloke who can legitimately claim to being the player capable of playing in every single position and being one of the best at doing so. A third brownlow medal isn't out of reach either. Well done.

On a side note, haven't heard of one player being claimed by so many clubs/ towns/ regions. I know of connections to Merbein and Horsham in Victoria after being born at Wallaroo. I think there are a couple of others in there as well.

I reckon had he played for a Melbourne based club, he would be considered twice the player.

I reckon if you were going to clone one player who had all the attributes to play every position on the field to build some sort of superteam he would be the only current day player that could do it all

Absolutely.

Never really appreciated how Goodes he was until I moved to Sin City.

So smooth, so clean, so much time.

And the amazing thing is his name never comes up (aside from the plaudits).
Not an open target for GWS or the Suns, never voiced unhappiness at Sydney.

Must be a very content person to go along with his massive football ability.

Goodesy is an absolute gun. I'd have him at Catland before I'd bring in moneybags Judd or welcome back moneybags Ablett. The Swannies simply wouldn't be in the eight without him.

The player he reminds of a bit is Anthony Koutafedies before he got hurt. That ability to leap and snaffle the ball one handed and just take off are the hallmarks of both players. Goodes of course has manged to do it for far longer than Kouta could and he'll eventually be a legend of the game in my view. Best indigenous player ever because I haven't seen Polly.

Love him. Great player. Dominated the 1997 TAC grand final on the same day that the Crows played St Kilda. Everyone at the ground could see what a future star he was going to be......except the Adelaide Crows recruiting staff

Agreed Dutchy. Could he conceivably play out of the goal square en route to 400 games? ( 35/36 years old? ) I think he will most certainly get to 350. Barring injury.

given that he was pick 43 in the draft, i think it's safe to say every team had a pick that they could have used to gain his services, not just Adelaide.

i said to my workmate just yesterday, he could easily play another year or two in his current role (doing everything), then play another 2 or 3 years at full forward. could play 380+ games.
