How to fix St Kilda

Postby OnSong » Fri Feb 04, 2011 9:49 am

Ok, we've read the articles, we've seen the coverage, the debacle that is the St Kilda Football Club.
Now, I'm sure players of yesteryear would be pretty disappointed what has become the once proud (can I call it proud?) club.
Every week, it's "what have the Saints done now?"
So I propose those great thinking minds that peruse these pages post their suggestions on how to get this club back to a respectable organisation.
Also, would love to know where you think they've gone wrong.

For mine, I would strip Riewoldt of the captaincy.
Nick's head would be in a different place right now. Don't think he is up to leading the team.
In all the crap that's gone on, do you know who's name hasn't come up?
Lenny Hayes.
Why? Because he's a mature bloke. Natural leader.
He's modest. Straight forward. Courageous. And doesn't have a gay picture of him with his knob out circulating the world-wide web.
I would put Zac Dawson on notice.
Sam Gilbert is in a similar boat.
It seems trouble follows these two blokes around like Paris Hilton's chihuahua.

OS ridiculous post mate. A lot of this has been nothing but a media beat up, with a psycho stalking girl involved as well.

As with the stripping Riewoldt of the captaincy, come on. Your first point about not hearing about Hayes is laughable. Have you listened to the news lately or read any articles? Hayes was recently involved in a fight in a night club. Hardly staying out of trouble himself (although I have no doubt he was provokes) ...

Nothing but a media beat up?
I reckon that's more ridiculous than anything.
I mean, a psycho stalking girl, seriously? You're going to blame all their off-field antics on a girl, who should not have been involved with the players in the first place?
Mind you, that's just my thoughts.
Feel free to post your suggestions on how the club can rebuild it's shattered, tarnished, destroyed, demolished, image.
Blame the media, puh-lease!

Cos they given the blues a few touch ups over the past few years? ... a pretty stupid statement!

Yes, I agree they have had a bad run with a few incidents that the media has taken and ran with, but as a St. Kilda supporter, to be totally honest, i am not too concerned. I think its all a bit of a blow up. To strip St Nick of the captaincy is rediculous as he hasn't done anything wrong.

In my view, the only way to fix St Kilda is for them to win a flag!

You probably have a better chance following Richmond TBH.
Saints fans are delusional if they think "it's just a run of bad luck" that the media have pumped up.
There's a culture there that has been breeding trouble.
If you totalled the number of players involved in off-field controversy over the past three or four years, it would easily beat any other club IMO.

Milne, Montagna, Riewoldt, Gilbert (several times), Dawson (several times), Stanley, Cahill, Steven, Dal Santo, Lovett, Baker, Hayes.

11 of those players on the current list of 40.
Players will make mistakes now and then and some incidents they tend to be provoked (eg Baker and Hayes.)
But hell. I would love to see a comparison to any club that rivals that lot.

Yeah and I'm worried about that  (FYI the overall record is Carlton 157 wins, 2 draws & 47 losses v the Saints)

No because they think they're better then what their history tells us.

Their History states 1 Premiership and 26 Wooden Spoons.

They're a club who releases a DVD called "the Streak" (or something like that), for winning a heap of minor round games yet choke it up when it counts.

The typical Saints supporter lives in a false grandeur on the back on NOTHING. NADDA. ZIP.

I think no matter how the Saints fare this year, they need to move on their list at the end of the season, and it might see one or two useful players head to new clubs.

I say they need to move on the list, because it will soon become an aging one .. They also need to weed out those players they believe can't fit the culture they want for the club.

Don't see a problem leaving St Nick as the skip though, but either Lenny or Goddard would also be worthy .. Just my uneducated $0.02

While they keep playing in GFs, they're giving themselves every chance to win a flag, as a supporter, nothing would be more satisfying than seeing them win a flag, regardless of how many pissy little incidents they overcome along the way. There's no doubt they are having issues but I'm not sure its a cultural issue. Other than the rape allegations to Lovett (who can hardly attribute the culture of the club to that crime) and Mantagna/Milne (no charges were ever laid), the other incidents are pretty petty in my view, but seem to offend a precious few that keep harping on about them.

I think the saints shouldve given Blighty a go

But now I think they should really stick with the current group, show some faith in the lads

Perhaps instead of staying in hotels when they travel away, the team could be billeted to families like I was in the SAPSASA days.

Not defending what the current players have been involved in,but players from the past would have gotten away with alot more,as if there was problems the clubs were able to sweep it all under the carpet.
