'AFL Star hit me' - headline in today's Sunday Herald-Sun.

Postby Mr66 » Sun Jan 13, 2008 9:43 am

On page 17 of the Sunday Herald-Sun.

'Port Adelaide footballer Chad Cornes is facing allegations he assaulted his stepfather.

Fred Phillis, a SA National Football League legend, yesterday alleged Chad pushed and
hurt him as Cornes and teammate brother Kane helped their mother move out of the marital home.

Sources close to the Cornes family said it had been Phillis who had sparked the incident.

Police were called to the incident at the suburban Adelaide home of Phillis and his estranged wife Pam, - the Cornes brother's mother.

Phillis had said that the brothers had not been invited, but would not detail what exactly happened.

"I can't comment, but (there were) three of them and one of me. Two of them are AFL
footballers and I'm 59 - you work it out", Phillis said.

The incident occured after the breakdown of the four year marriage last year, which Phillis has
said was partly caused by his "affinity for South Australian wine".

Pam Phillis enlisted her sons to help her out of the marital home.'

Here is some relationship advice Pam, Stay away from footballers!
If one person does it, it's insanity. If millions do it, it's religion.

Another Cornes/Phillis imbroglio.

Will Glenelg ever learn?

Graham Cornes and "Fred" Phillis are both Glenelg products, and have had words before.
Fred did have the good sense to move to Norwood at one stage I believe - he must have relapsed!

And according to the Sunday Mail, it reads like G Cornes and Mr Phillis played one season together.

Also Mr Cornes is not Pam's first wife.

Shit house article. I guess they are bored with harrassing David Hicks.
He's still my hero even if he is a little bit crap.

i haven't read the paper (haven't for at least 6 months) but we all know they played more than one season together & i'd suggest it was about 10-12 seasons although i think fred retired for a couple of seasons & then made a comeback in about 1981 for a year or two

Man, they are a real life soapie. Is there any page of the newspaper they can't appear on?

Graham Cornes - multimedia superstar. scurrilous rumours about his life have followed him around forever.
His missus famous for being Mrs Corners runs for politics, fumbles ball in first media interview and still whingeing how she got a bad run from the media (huh??? what about the freebies she got!!!).
Pam Phillis (previously Cornes) marries big Fred, now divorcing, blah, blah, blah
Chad loves a dust up and dating blondes
Kane and Lucy are always in the social pages - loving the attention.

I'm waiting for the story about a Cornes family dog admitting to a crack problem!
"woof, I just can't stop sniffing butts. woof"

Because that my friends would be news!

Okay, maybe I'm gilding the lilly a bit here. But really do we care?

Big f....g deal.
Family split ups /altercations happen all the time
If Phillis and Cornes were Smith and Jones this journalistic trash would
not make the front page.
I prefer to remember Freddy Phillis as a Medalist and a sensational full forward for Glenleg.
I still remember those funny coloured footy boots he wore v Norwood in the 1975 Grand Final.
I remember calling out after he missed a shot for goal to take off his mothers slippers.
Freddy kicked about 0-6 and Glenelg lost to the magnificent redlegs.

This article is just a slur on 2 iconic family names synominous in SANFL folklore

I prefer looking at the picture on page 10 of the Sunday MAiL

Kane and Lucy have got a sick kid who we have to see all the time - just to remind us that they've got it a little tough in life like the rest of us.
