Would be great for Symes.
Love him to have that opportunity.

I would have thought Port have flagged their intentions by taking Lonie off the team sheets last weekend for North and leaving Symes to play for Centrals.

But it staggers me that Symes doesn't appear to be in the mix every week for Port.

i can understand that smac but surely a guy that had 28 and was close to best on gorund has to be a chance... although he has been doing this all year hasnt he and cant get a look in.

i still think he is in with a chance, there is always some form of surprise selection come grand final day... Aaron keating, Cam Mooney in 1999,

Lonie is a hack. End of story.

Symes has been consistent week in, week out and has done everything possible to earn a recall. Would be a real fairytale if he was included, and the Power won the flag.

If you're looking to replace Wilson with a similar player, Symes or Matt Thomas would be the way to go, although Greg Bentley would be my smoky...

On another note, is this the end for Wilson?

Symes can't be in their thinking or they would have pulled him from Sunday's game like they did Lonie

I would presume anyway ....?

Don't know who will come in but Wilbur is a huge loss for the Power his hard approach would have been invaluable to help some of the younger blokes. It's been one of the things swaying me to think the Cats will win.

Greg Bentley is said to be the favourite i just heard on the news.
But i think symes has more to offer.
Wilson, expect a retirement, surely he's had enough of not being fit enough.

Do you think he'll line up for the Magpies next season?

HOF I heard speculation that Wilbur could be out of action for 12 months

So he won't line up for the Magpies either if that's the case

He's a tough bloke, depends if he has that desire, might end up being a coach somewhere, i think he would have some valuable input in clubs at bth SANFL and AFL level.

He only just recently signed a new contract with the Power, 1 year. I would think that he will hang up the boots completely when he finishes in the AFL, body would have had enough - the guy eats cortisone for breakfast !!!
Symes should come in, Lonie has good skills but is too one dimensional, lacks hardness or defensive ability. Symes give Port better options.

I think symes will be wearing a different jumper next year regardless of what happens on the weekend. Perhaps only a premiership could save this from happening!!!

Fair enough, I didn't know it was that bad...you've gotta feel for the guy though.

would have thought that thomas, lower or bentley would be the group wilson's replacement would come from especially if the ground is a bit wet.
p burgoyne and chaplin at times both fill lonie's role of the outrider and do it better.
achilles are at least a 6 month injury but not as long as 12.

Absolutely. I have the uptmost respect for Michael Wilson. Really feel for him not only missing out on a GF but possibly the end of his career. Not the way he'd want to finish but if anyone can get back from this he is the one.

Apparently Greg Anderson took 18 months to get over a snapped achilles back in his day

Possibly medical treatment has advanced a bit since then

I feel for Wilson too that's a shocker for a guy that has suffered so many injuries already .... but the week before the grand final :(
