REB's the final Rubbish: Round 22

Postby Rik E Boy » Thu Aug 30, 2007 9:51 pm

Well lads it's the final rubbish for me this season as I'll be spending most of September praying to what might turn out to be non-existent football gods! Looks like a couple of teams are pulling out the heavy armour this week! However, I reckon they're not on the right track.

Collingwood can make the weekend uncomfortable for the Cows fans by knocking them off on Friday night at the Telsta Dome. With Buckley back and a big win under their belt, the Pies are primed to pounce on the Blackbirds who will throw everything at Collingwood in what looks to be one of the better Friday night fixtures for the year. Pies by 15 points.

St Kilda will account for Richmond on the Saturday to make the weekend complete for Crows fans. The suddenly in-form Tiges will give plenty of cheek but with the great man Harvey back in the side and the sniff of September in the air, the Saints will prevail in the end. St Kilda by 28 points.

West Coast will pound the tar out of a disappointing Essendon at Putriaco. The Bombers have run out of emotion and couldn't raise a sweat against Richmond so even an undermanned Eagles outfit will have little difficulty accounting for one of the more disappointing sides of the year. Well, I'm not disappointed. I've always hated the Bombers ha ha. Eagles by 53 points.

Geelong's loss won't be Brisbane's gain at the Gabba. By the time they suit up on Saturday night they'll probably hit the Gabba knowing that their season is over. That's gotta leave you flat. Meanwhile the Cats got a most welcome boot up the bum by the Power last week and wont want to go into the finals on the back of two losses. Cats comfortably here by 38 points, the Lions to get a little closer without saluting if they are still in the hunt for a top eight berth.

Port will go out knowing exactly what will be required to claim second spot and face a Freo outfit that is a surprise nomination for the prestigous 'tank of the week' award. Hey, why should Carlton and Melbourne have all the fun? Not only can they win 'tank of the week' they can also force West Coast to travel next week. Meanwhile, Port get a soft home game after two toughies on the road. Bang! Everyone's a winner! Nah, it'll be Port who are the winners by 61 points.

Sydney always seem to ruffle those Hawker feathers and I reckon they can do so one more time to the frustration of Hawk fans everywhere. The Hawks are so close they can smell it but the reality is they could be smelling mothballs in two weeks it's that tight. Sydney are not at their best but I am yet to be convinced that the Hawks have managed to solve the 'Adelaide-Sydney' defensive Rubik's Cube..especially on the tight confines of the Basketball Court.

Kangaroos will relish the chance to clean up the Bulldogs who have faded badly towards the latter of the end of the season with the seven week run home to make dire reading for any Doggies fan reviewing the club history when it comes to season 2007. Plenty of Dogs will go back into the kennell after this one and mad Monday will be a treat but this will be a forgettable walk in the park for the Roos who will tune up for the finals with a 44 point win.

Melbourne will win the 'who cares' match of the season. Um, by 23 points. If they can't be bothered, nor can I. The sooner the AFL does away with the priority pick (and Melbourne and Carlton for that matter  ) the better.

So, if by some extreme fluke of nature I finally pick eight out of eight...hey stop laughing it is possible you know! The top eight will look like this.

1. Geelong
2. Port
3. West Coast
4. Kangaroos
5. Collingwood
6. Hawthorn
7. Sydney
8. St Kilda

which would make for an interesting finals series, although I doubt that Adelaide fans would agree!

regards,

REB

The Crows and Collingwood game will be particularly interesting obviously. Its interesting the Crows form over in Melbourne against the Wobbles is quite good in recent years, whilst Collingwood has won quite a few over here recently. Very hard to pick, i believe its at Telstra where the Crows good footy, I'm inclined to tip the AFC in this one.

Adelaide 11 points

St Kilda 31 points

WCE 46 points

Geelong 29 points

Hawthorn 19 points

Kangaroos 53 points

Carlton 1 point

Port 31 points

not real keen on this round!!...trying to hang onto the money in 3 comps

Adelaide - Changed my mind here, Didak out is huge for the Woods and despite back to back 6 day breaks Im going with the Crows
Saints - Could be an upset here though, will be backing Richmond under the DOOM system
WCE - Could be closer than people think here
Port
Geelong
Swans - to bounce back
Roos - can they keep going with 3 weeks straight on the DOOM? when you are playing poor teams it helps
Melbourne

Next year I am going to do the George Costanza thing and go against my instincts for Friday night games. I reckon I'd add about 15 winners to my tally for the year. #-o

Managed only 6

Can't think why I went for Carlton now

Finished on 121 - got me 1,078 out of 140,000 in the NAB tipping comp on the AFL site.

We should use that site to do a SAFooty AFL tipping comp next year. It's easy to set up a comp and the site does all the work for us.
