Cool, Essendon play a fair few Friday games

That would be more than fair

Like I said earlier, if I really wanted it I could afford it, but I can not justify giving up one of the things I mentioned for 1 or 2 games of footry a week for 1/2 the year
North Adelaide F C : Champions of Aust 1972 : Premiers 1900, 02, 05, 20, 30, 31, 49, 52, 60, 71, 72, 87, 91

But Ian, under the current scenario, you'd lose out, because Ch 7 refuse to play FTA games, so they'd be on Fox!

The current scenario where Fox has to show a live Crows or Port game when it is also on free to air and we don't get to see other AFL games live at the same time is also a disgrace.

ABSOLUTELY. Couldn't watch St Kilda vs Nth Melb because it clashed with Port v West Coast when Free to Air was already televising that game - and both telecasts used the same commentary team FFS.

The fact that all games are broadcast is one thing. The fact that broadcasters are allowed to have games scheduled to run into or spring out of news broadcasts is another. Yet what is bordering on disgraceful is having Friday night games delayed by 90 minutes into Adelaide (and longer in Perth!) or in the alternative, having two broadcasters do the same match live!

Without doubt the worst part of the deal. Although I'm sure Foxtel hate the deal as well.

I don't have the debts to hold me back, but I refuse to sign up for Foxtel and pay for a lot of rubbish I don't want, and still have to pay extra to get AFL.
So, I may join Ian in giving up AFL too, apart from, perhaps if something reminds me, looking up the scores on the Internet after the matches.

Psybe, just sell off one of the lambos or ferraris and I'm sure you'll free up enough cash.

Da comrade. ;)

As I said in another thread, I own a 1996 Ssangyongg Musso and a 1995 Audi S2, and the best offer I've had on the Musso as a trade in was $5K.
My days of earning enough to buy expensive cars peaked in the early 1980s and petered out in the early 1990s. I bought the Audi second hand in 2002.
Spending my invested capital would leave me scratching for an adequate income at current interest rates.
I really need a few rate rises in the next few months....
However, I'll be laughing once they top 8% and really happy above 10%... ;)

It's not just that, some places you cant get it at all.
It's all the SANFL's fault.

With the current rights deal, there is no need for ten and seven to bid for the rights to crows and Power games , because even if Fox have the rights. seven get the sunday games and ten get the Saturday games for free, so they get the ratings for free. the same happens in WA. so smart management by 10 and 7

Not really joker. More luck that the AFL doesn't enforce 10 and 7 in SA and WA to show the games those stations actually selected.

AFL won't go solely to pay TV anytime soon. There'd be an uproar. Cricket would go before AFL and that is close to being as unlikely. In 10 years' time well who knows?

Having said that, I think the days of guaranteed Crows and Power games into Adelaide are numbered.

For the record, we have Foxtel but I haven't got the full sports subscription purely because of the cost. We could afford it but where do you stop the discretionary spending each month? Because I get Crows & Power games guaranteed and most of the other games on free to air I live with it. I am not passionate enough about IPL or EPL or car racing to justify the sports channels.

For such a mainstream sport, to force everyone to come up with close to $100 per month just to watch AFL is no small thing. For "boutique" sports (less popular in Australia) then Pay TV is fine for those willing to spend the money.
In between signatures .....

Right after the HD and sports channels and right before the movie channels. :D

What is stopping 10 using their main channel 10 for the game that has to be televised into that market and using One for the main game that is televised everywhere else?
