In the words of Isaac Newton, "To every action, there is an equal and opposite reaction".

In other words, whenever AFL players want to sell books or plug businesses, they appear on footy shows and receive tens of thousands of dollars worth of FREE publicity ... something the average schmuck in the street cannot get. If they want to earn even more money, they can get their faces plastered over tv sets and magazines plugging products.

AFL players have doors opened to them that most of us can only dream about. It's the trappings of their office. In return for this position of privilege, they must subject themselves to public and media scrutiny. It's part of the deal, so if the players cannot handle it, they should go get a real job and find out what tough times are really all about.

Dont disagree with you at all there AH, other than to ask, whether ALL AFL players have those opportunities to promote themselves? Granted that even if they don't, as part of a team they'll still be subject to some level of public scrutiny, and obviously that doesn't excuse behaviour if it exceeds mainstream moral expectation.

At least in the Adelaide media they just beat up local stuff and it stays pretty well locally...for local people.
With the Melb media they have the beautiful navel gazing knack of turning the same pathetic over-beaten crap into something that is really important to the whole of the nation. I'm sick of it! What an over-reaction and what a load of wankers, players involved and the media also.
Along with the rules committee and current umpiring decisions I've just about given up on this "elite" comp.
I'm going to Unley tomorrow and see something that's honest and unpretentious.

Okay, not all AFL players go on to fame and fortune. However, whilst they are part of the "Show". opportunities are presented that most of us can only imagine. A lad in our cricket club was drafted into AFL years ago, and suddenly had his eyes opened as to what opportunities fell before him, in sport, business, and life in general.

I had a beer and chat with him that Christmas, he suddenly had more money than he imagined possible, and he had already grasped the idea that his life had changed, the responsibilites he had to accept, and the people he would let down if he did not accept those reponsibilities. He understood what was expected of him, and he knew he just couldn't afford to go out and do stupid things any more. I'm pleased to say he made a success of himself. Unfortunately, there are a lot of young men who do not embrace this concept.

Of the guys who play little AFL footy, when they return to the "real world", the fact they played AFL football looms large on the old curriculum vitae. We have had a couple of ex-AFL players join our organisation this year, and believe me, they didn't have to start from the bottom.

Would be the same as the number of conceited sleezebags and pimps I would imagine cos they're the ones I'd expect would do that.

I still think it's weird that so much fuss was made about a frozen chicken supposedly symbolizing a woman yet 5aa etc seem to have failed to note that the way they use the rubber chicken = d*ckhead...litterally.

Watching the Port Power game today and noticed the advertising of teambet in Power colours. looked them up and their contact details and snap! Same place that sponsor the Crows just labelled differently with a different skin

You thought Nathan Bock's issues with women were disgraceful, take a look at how the North Melbourne players perceive them:
Careful son, there are a few stories going around out Elizabeth way about one of your blokes and the way he takes his frustrations out on those at home. By the crows standards of discipline this bloke would be out for about 5 years.

Rotter- what a pointless and irrelevant comment. Lets all just start a rumour about the club of the person im having an on-line argument with. If comments like that without any fact are all you have to offer this forum your user account shoule be terminated immediately.

Firstly, my introduction to this thread was just a joke.
I was taking the pi** - Dutchy and I have had a few threads like this over the years. I also informed Dutchy of this soon after posting the thread.
I also thought it was fairly obvious from my over the top commentary that I was taking the pi**.

Secondly, I would never, ever condone a bloke hitting a chick. Never ever.
I'm no fan of Bock's. And I'm no fan of violence against women.
If any person was identified as being a man who uses violence against women, whether they come from Centrals or not, I would lose a lot of respect for that person.

But hey, you keep using this as an opportunity to air the barroom gossip you've heard about such and such a bloke from such and such a club.
And...If you are concerned about this woman's welfare at the hands of this player, maybe you should do something positive about it - contact the club, tell them you've heard this story, which is hopefully untrue. The club might look into it then and provide the guidance that this purported player needs.
Or are you just happy to keep writing up rumours?
You're my only friend, and you don't even like me.

Exactly JAS. It will be perceived however one wants to perceive it and because the media love a beat-up, they'll sell it so they can hang another footballer out to dry.
