THE Kangaroos AFL club was still counting its losses today after fire swept through a section of its North Melbourne clubrooms destroying game records, memorabilia and personal items belonging to its players.
It is believed the fire was deliberately lit and officers from the Victoria Police arson squad were investigating.
Kangaroos chief executive Geoff Walsh said the fire at the North Melbourne Football Social Club destroyed an assistant coach's office, the team's strength and conditioning rooms and a players recreational area.
Mr Walsh said the damage, estimated at $150,000, would have little material effect on the players but would take its toll on the team as a whole.
"It's inconvenienced and disappointed the players, everyone feels a bit violated," he said.
Boots and other training and fitness equipment were lost along with billiard tables, records on players and previous games and memorabilia belonging to the club and to players.

Three fire units including an aerial unit attended the club rooms on Arden St about 4.46am (AEST).
The blaze was brought under control within 15 minutes.
The fire followed a disastrous night's football for the Kangaroos who earlier in the evening suffered a 72-point loss to the Adelaide Crows at AAMI Stadium.
Mr Walsh rejected suggestions a disillusioned fan could be responsible.
"That's not something I've considered," he said.
Police said materials found near the site of the fire may have been deliberately lit.
A police spokesman said the blaze was believed to be the fifth fire lit in the North Melbourne area in the last month
