Port's training list

Postby rogernumber10 » Mon Nov 10, 2008 12:01 pm

Port has got permission for all these blokes to train in the lead-up to the national draft and rookie draft. Aside from Carr, any of them a chance to be picked up?

Daniel Boyle (Central Districts), Daniel Caire (West Adelaide), Josh Carr (Fremantle), Thomas Dunne (Central Districts), Nick Fergusson (South Adelaide), Craig Fitzgerald (WW Torrens), Tom Fotheringham (Sturt), Tom Holmes (Glenelg), Gavin Hughes (Western Bulldogs), Damian Hynes (Central District), George Long (Port Adelaide), Charlie McAdam (North Adelaide), Jessie O’Brien (North Adelaide), Brayden O’Hara (Central District), Jay Shannon (Port Adelaide Magpies), Daniel Stewart (North Adelaide), Wade Thompson (North Adelaide), Daniel Webb (West Adelaide)
Roger Woodcock -- 602 goals from a forward flank makes you a legend.

IMO

BAsed on his form in Apr-June Tommy Holmes would've been a Monty, However he had a poor July-Aug which wuold've seen clubs go cool on him (I know one club had him in the top 50 overall draft picks in June but by August they had gone cold on him).

However he had a very good finals series playing on the ball coming off the bench as opposed to being on the wing for most of the season. He got numerous centre clearances in the prelim and in the GF So I'm glad to see him in the train on squad.

IMO Port or any other club could do worse than Rookie him as he has above average fitness (3 km time trial) and good clean one take hands. Still has bugs in his game that need ironing out but he has a great attitude and learns quickly.
Let that be a lesson to you Port, no one beats the Bays five times in a row in a GF and gets away with it!!!

Daniel Stewart is a big chance of being picked up by Port or someone else in the draft, big lad can ruck or play up forward and has a thumping long left foot kick to match his good overhead skills.

Brayden O'Hara from Centrals might be worth a punt...

Has come on in leaps and bounds after almost walking away from the club after 2 years of consistant reserves footy before getting a league opportunity this year. Win Centrals most improved award and if not for Big Buckets in the SANFL Grand Final, he may have had a Jack Oatey Medal around his neck. Speedy wingman with a booming left foot kick, I think about 20 years old. Has pace and uses the footy well, alco likes to run and carry the lines. I hope Port pick him up as a rookie so at least he stays with Centrals !!!

I thought the same thing re O'Hara after watching him in the GF, hadn't seen much of him before that but was impressed with his hardness, ability to win the ball and delivery. Thought I read somewhere though that he was nearly mid 20's so assumed he would be past his chance. If he is 20 definitely worth a punt.
