Will Sheedy and the Bombers ever learn

ESSENDON coach Kevin Sheedy has identified former St Kilda player Aussie Jones as a possible recruit for next season.

Asked if he would pursue 29-year-old Jones, Sheedy said: "We've always had good success with players around 30.

"I appreciate experienced players to help young players and we have lost a lot and most likely are going to lose (Adam) Ramanauskas, possibly, and (Dean) Rioli and these sorts of players.

"It's great to have experience to fall back on to help young players through."

Jones, who admitted yesterday that Sheedy had recently phoned him, surprised many when he quit St Kilda at the end of last season.

Always wait until preseason draft is done before I judge too harshly on these sort of things. Remember last year or year before when there was talk of Essendon redrafting Mark Mercuri and you knew that was garbage because Mercuri was an absolute shadow of his former self in his final season.
If Jones did come back I think it would prove that he had issues with Grant Thomas and the St Kilda hierachy as the reasons he gave for retiring were due to a lack of motivation to play top level football anymore and to get out while he still had his health i.e. not slugging it out at 32 or 33, battling to make the team and needing needles to 'get up'.

Craigy seems to like players who have running capacity can play midfield or down back and who are hard at the contest

As I'm sure you're aware, they already have.
That's not to say though that he hasn't improved as a footballer since his time on the Crows rookie list.
