Was it the same guy who, last year, got tattooed with 'GAY FL Premiers '07' in Bali or Thailand?

That was funny. He wrote down on a piece of paper what he wanted. He wrote "Left Arm 2007 Day Premiers" then "Right Arm 2007 Night Premiers". The Tattooist actually tattooed the words Right Arm and Left arm on as well as making the typo thus declaring Geelong the 2007 Gay Premiers

Sam Mitchell has been cleared by the match review panel after making front on contact with Gary Ablett.

good to hear, there wasn't much in it.

MatteeG has returned after a super weekend. Finding it hard to do any work today, still feels surreal...

Left at 2am Sat morning- unfortunately about 4.30am we were one of the first cars to come across the double fatality on the Dukes highway not far from Keith. Not a good sight, and one I would never wish on anyone. Kinda put the whole GF experience in a bit of perspective from the start. Hence there will be no REB, Wedgie, Fester or Strawb bashing/gloating in this post.

Eventually arrived about noon, quick hotel check-in and we were off to Glenferrie (initially thought of trying for a ticket or some other kind of entry (cheers Punk Rooster for the suggestion), but due to the later than expected arrival it made our decision easy)

Watched the match at Glenferrie on the big screens and it was great fun- a warm day, a few frothies, lots of fellow Hawks and hopefully a win! Thought the pressure the hawks put on the cats all day was first class, and to put goals on the board when the chances arrived proved to be the difference.

Was amazed at half time that somehow the Hawks were up, Geelong smashed us all over the ground for the majority of the quarter, yet somehow we were in front at the long break. The rush of goals late in the third quarter was about as excited as MatteeG has ever got*, jumping around like a mad man, poor Mrs G having to put up with it!

Last 5 minutes of the game it started to kick in- we are gonna win the GF! Glenferrie was rocking, I am sure the Hawks fans at the G were similarly delerious...

Went to Fed Square after the game to see the players presented to the crowd (the place was packed) then kicked on with Mrs G and a mate at the Cas...even saw Buddy late in the piece with chicks everywhere, the man is a rock star.

Went to the family day yesterday and it was packed- the news report said 15000, but I reckon they may have been a few thousand short, the whole of Linda Crescent was chockas, and the line up to get in stretched to Glenferrie road an hour before the gates opened. Kudos to the organisers who sensibly organised orderly running of the Merchandise booths, only allowing one small group into the 'purchasing' area at one time. Meant you werent rushed or had a heap of people jostling for tshirts etc.

Couple of mates who are big Cats fans were very humble, got text messages from them congratulating me- cheers lads. I now know the feeling you boys had last year.

Left about 1.30pm for the long drive back to Adelaide, got home 11ish. Got some texts with the news the Bays had got up too! Topped the weekend off nicely.

GO YOU HAWKS- PREMIERS 2008

Cheers,

MatteeG

MatteeG feel free to Fester bash/gloat it's what's footy is all about! I know I'd be gloating if we had won. I was as cocky as hell going in, even had my 2008 tattoo designed (but lucky not to get it done in advance!) I dont think you won it as much as we lost it but in the end you got the cup, we didn't. The ONLY good possible thing to come out of the game was Crawf - I like the guy from the Footy Show!
As a supporter I am shattered, seen my 11yo daughter cry for the 1st time at a footy match, that tugged the heart strings, she tried to hide it from me and if I mentioned it I know she would deny it, so I just put my arm around her. I was proud of her when she said "Dad even though we're going to lose we have to stay til the end or we are dogs!" I said "Damn straight, if you walk out when losing you have no right to be there when winning!".
If I was a Geelong player I'd be embarassed and angry and determined like hell to win it next year, beware the injured cat!

Tell ya what, critics and Cats fans alike have been pretty savage on Matty Stokes performance, but if his role as a small forward includes him being a marking target, then he needs advantageous delivery, and some of the ball he was getting was just atrocious ... Have just finished watching the highlights of the first half, and noticed at least 3 times he was in dangerous position but the delivery from his midfielders was just abominable.

Can't agree with that. It's a cop out. The Hawks played better, that is why they won. To say a team "loses" a game is not being gracious to the deserving winner.

geelong lost it, by not putting scoreboard pressure on the hawks in the 2nd quarter in which they dominated.

but in the premiership quarter it was all one way traffic for the hawks

they clearly outplayed geelong when the game was there to be won.

Geelong didnt play all that well, skill level was atrocious as it had been for a while, but were still good enough to win those games, also Hawthorns pressure did add to geelongs poor skills and decision making

the best team on the day won the game and CONGRATULATIONS to the HAWKS and there fans, enjoy it, savour it.

the cats will be back next year, the hawks will be there and then its upto another team to try and close the gap, because the gap from the top 2 to the next couple is HUGE.
Matty Wade is a star and deserves more respect from the forum family!
