With how athletic and aerobic the game has become I'm not sure you can just let players see out their careers either off a half back or in the goal square. opposition coaches are too smart for that. Wherever they play it seems a player will have to run some amazing distances week in week out.

Yes, you are basically right. I think you can get a bit more time out of a mid-fielder with a move to a less strenuous role, if you do it soon enough, but it only makes a small difference, not like years ago when a former rover might go on for several years longer as a defender.

Ricciutto was never fit in his last year, and was being played on his name only. He did fairly well early given that, but it was a year too late, possibly more.

Bassett looks to me as though he'll go before either McLeod or Edwards, as he is struggling to maintain fitness.

Edwards last couple of games has been great, his year so far hasnt been terrible at all, no questions as far as im concerned about him playing on or not!

Macca on the other hand hasnt been his normal self, finding hard to brake the tag but has been good in patches and his experience out on the field is priceless! I think he will assess at the end of the year with the club how his body is holding up and what he can offer us next year, but there still could be 1 more year out of macca.

Bass is the worry i believe, starting to have a few injures here and there and while a very solid contributer, isnt as quick and mobile anymore, i think if he keeps having these little niggling injures then this might be his last year.

They have both held their own so far although Mcleod after a solid start has found it hard to shake the tag of late.
Only half way mark of year, lets wait & see how both pull up at end of year whether they can go on another year or not.

Now Macca has had the knee done, i reckon that is a fair indication of his intention and the clubs intention to play him next year. Both have got another year maybe 2 in my opinion.
