Consider this....

Talk on the national game

Consider this....

Postby Booney » Fri May 30, 2008 7:07 am

We have just been placed in charge of gathering together the first squad for the Gold Coast Sharks.

We are cashed up to the eyeballs with membership funds, pokie money and AFL hand outs,so,who are we going to target? Our strategic planning team has told me that we are allowed in 2009 to speak with 12 players in the AFL,be them under contract or not for 2010.The rest of our list will be made up of generous numbers in the rookie draft and the odd player from the QAFL,WAFL,SANFL,VFL........

We obviously need established stars who are marketable to the potential supporters on the Goldy and some young KPP to build our team around.Well boys who are we going to chase, and why?

I putting Alan Didak on the table. He is so hungry and selfish around goals I think the $$$ will win him over and we have 1 link in our FF line.
Kirk Tippett might want to come home so we have 2.

10 to go......
If you want to go quickly, go alone.

If you want to go far, go together.

Nick Riewoldt because he just can't stand the cold, but he wants the Gold Coast to build an indoor venue.....so we have three.

Daniel Harris

He wanted to go up there with the Roos, had his heart set on the GC until Brayshaw ruined it all

26 years old - knows he isn't getting any younger, NM can't pay as much as GC can, has to look after his family, fat contract is appealling

Edit - note, everything other than his age in tongue-in-cheek

No STK players, they have been poisoned with the sickness of failure by that club.
Franklin would be perfect but would he cost too much?

Hamish McIntosh from the Roos as the no1 ruckman, a GC boy I believe and will be 1 of the top tap ruckman in the league in 2 years (if not already).

Brett Ebert - I believe he would be trade bait already if it weren't for his last name.
He's developed as much as he is going to, is no more than a small forward IMO.
Replaceable at Port Adelaide but with his experience and skills as a forward will be more than handy on the GC.

As much as I think Riewoldt is a big sook, you would think he'd be happy to go home to the Gold Coast for limited $$$$ and leave the sinking ship that is St Kilda.

You bitter, bitter man. Barry Hall went on to play in a Swans premiership. Tony Lockett found a halo when he left the Saints and went on to beat Coventry's record. It's a sickness you can recover from.

So far we have:
Daniel Harris
David Hale
Nick Reiwolt
Kurt Tippett
Alan Didak

Now look at Simon Black.
Might be worth a chance as he might be getting on a bit, but might just be able to get him across.

Also would look at Marc Murphy. Big future - would be a pearla in the midfield.

Chad Cornes, because when Tredrae retires at the end of 2009 (because of injuries) Port Power appoint Brett Ebert as the new captain so Chad agrees to play for the GC as their new skipper.

Hampson from Carlton, young promising ruckman, a Queensland Boy...

Marc Murphy, no chance IMO, as he knocked back Brisbane under the father son so he didn't have to move from
Melbourne

Can't see Black ever leaving the Lions. He would have returned to WA by now if that was the case.
