Geelong has done very well out of the father son rule with the exception of Ben Cousins. As well as that we have drafted as though we are in rebuilding mode since the awful acquistion of Murphy and White and the necessity of trading Maloney and pick 13 for Ottens. This means that hopefully, the 'window' will stay open a little longer for the Cats, which is a good thing because West Coast and Adelaide are currently setting the bar for consistency.

Despite being around the mark for the last couple of years, Geelong still has about the third youngest list in the league....in Geelong's round 2 clash against the Roos, we fielded the youngest side in the league during that round. Our young players have played a lot more football than the young players of many other sides and if we can continue to make the eight I reckon we can snaffle a flag this time around. Future's so bright I gotta wear 8)

They'd have a point too Booney, the way the rule is at the moment is bullplop. However, the Crows have other advantages that some other clubs don't like nine million members, the best facilities, cash galore..the team for all millionaires like Mappa

Yes,the father son rule is a calamity at the moment. The problem is clubs such as Adelaide,West Coast,Fremantle dont have a history prior to their entry into the AFL.This makes it difficult to set a benchmark for qualification.Methinks the rule should start from 1997 when Port Adelaide joined to make the current 16 team line up.I know this would mean it would be another 15+ years before any club could claim a father-son pick, but,so be it,at least it would be fair to all.

The fact the AFL do not recognise the SANFL/WAFL in the same manner they do the VFL is another example of their belief the other competitions were not as important/strong as thiers and in turn the players such as Ross Gibbs and co. do not deserve the same amount of credit.

(Tough to argue with them when it comes to Rossco. Still remember Mum wanting to run out and put a Wrigley's in his hair! LOL)

I take your point in regards to the Cats having the 3rd youngest list, even so I still feel that if they do not at least make the GF this year, they need to make some real tough calls regarding their list....

The group of players at Catland have been together now for about 3-4 seasons, the club should have some real good inteligence and knowledge about there list and if they finish between 4-8 then some tough calls need to be made

This list should be cherry ripe and on the improve[/i]

Blue Boy

I agree, I don't agree with the current rules and bitching about it isn't going to change the AFL ruling so why bother.

The club and supporters need to focus on what we can control and do that better then any other club, if we have this approach we will win flags, if we look for excuses like the father son rule, well we will end up another st kilda "full of excuses"
