Talk on the national game

Matty Egan GAWNSKI

Geelong CHB Matty Egan will be out for the rest of the season as he requires further surgery on his injured foot that he did back in Round 22 last season against the Lions. He'll probably miss a fair whack of 2009 as well as he won't be able to start running again until January.

In recent times Geelong has gotten most things right but the management of Egan's injury is clearly something we have gotten badly wrong. We might have risked a whole career just to get him up for one game in a manner similar to how the Stoneham broken leg was handled in 1994.

All the best to the young Cat. It seems that the club knew something was up when they drafted Harry Taylor as a mature age key position backman.

shite not good at all was hoping he would be able to stand roughhead when we play the Hawks. Hopefully Harry Taylor continues to improve.
We're in hell right now gentlemen. Believe me. And we can stay here, get the shit kicked out of us, or we can fight our way back into the light. We can climb outta hell... one inch at a time.

such a shame to see such a very talented player to go down with such an injury :( :( :( :(

one of the best defenders in the competition
Matty Wade is a star and deserves more respect from the forum family!

Scarlo gets Roughead every time. I think Geelong will play either Mackie or Taylor on Buddy. Personally I think that restricting Roughead is a key as Buddy is a shocking shot for goal and is an extremely selfish footballer who doesn't often bring his team mates into the game. That's not to knock Buddy, he averages 9 shots at goal a game so having Mackie track him and hopefully keeping him to 3.6 from the pockets is probably the way to go. If Buddy gets that and Roughead gets restricted all of a sudden Hawthorn's gun forward line doesn't look quite so good.
