I know what you mean Carey18, I've had the same experience after hearing David Parkin speak....Geesus by the end of it I was floating on air and ready to run over hot coals.....
Let that be a lesson to you Port, no one beats the Bays five times in a row in a GF and gets away with it!!!

I enjpyed listening to Williams the week before the grand final saying the pressure was on Geelong and not Port.
You only have to look at how Geelong havent lost a game since with an average winning margin of over 10 goals and how Port havent won a game since to see how effective it was.
I hope he keeps opening his mouth, almost as effective as Tredreas bows. ;)

Arguably then, you could use that logic for Dennis Pagan. Should the Roos of the 90's have gotten more than two? And what was his gameplan...kick it to the King. Must have spent seconds working on that.

one flag in 40 years and we have a bit of a strut dont we?

94 - the beaten by Ablett
95 - copped Carlton in the prelim
96 - WON
97 - copped Saints in the Prelim
98 - LOST
99 - WON

so yes could have won more but also copped Carlton and Saints at top of their game, has we been in the other prelim it might have been different....

The 98 GF was a missed opportunity but you did come up against a quality team who used to go alright in the second half of games. ;)

NM had a habit of losing prelims to teams that then went on to lose the GF (by a fair bit) ... 1994, 1997, 2000 (exception = 1995)

And I will never say that the Crows were the better team of 1998 ... but bad kicking is bad football as they always say

So I'd say with 7 consecutive prelims they should have got 1 more premiership .... but 2 is still a GREAT achievement and its 2 more than most other teams in the era
In between signatures .....

To be fair Dutchy, I don't think REB's the Cats' proponent of strut in this thread.

Give Pagan his dues though. He took over a side that got walloped by 147 points and made them into a good side for the next 10 years.
Laidley and Williams are both hard to watch though.

Rightly or wrongly, his dues are now tainted by his time at Carlton. Took over a rabble, left them a rabble. Not saying that he isn't a good coach, but he missed his chance at being a great one.

Using the same philosophy though helped you avoid the Bombers in 99, swings and roundabouts I guess.

Always easy to look back on teams that were around the mark for years and say they underachieved, but that often pays little respect to the quality of opposition at the time ... 94 and 95 the premiers (IMHO at least) were the clear cut best teams in the comp (and Im sure no-one would argue with the premiers of 2000-2003) .. 97,98 and 99 a little murkier but thats the beauty of the game :D

Isn't this board supposed to be about the Power? Why are we discussing North?

Enjoy, no trolling will be tolerated, if you wish to have a lighthearted dig, leave it in the AFL board.
Cheers.
