If AFL clubs were Rock or Pop acts

Postby Rik E Boy » Fri Feb 15, 2008 1:37 pm

Adelaide are RED HOT CHILLI PEPPERS

This group exploded in the early 90's and excited us all with its raw edge but has faded away in recent years with diminishing returns.

Brisbane are OUTKAST

This combination was frustratingly labelled with the tag potential until a seminal release early in the current decade put this act on the global stage.

Carlton are KISS

This group was a true heavyweight in the late 70's and early 80's and while it desperately clings to former greatness most of us wonder why they bother.

Collingwood is LOUIS ARMSTRONG

A giant of his day, this old time favourite has only had the occaisonal rise to popularity with many fans thinking that it was not a wonderful world since 1990.

Essendon is TOM JONES

This stalwart of the pop scene has been consistently popular for decades but is alas now but a shadow of his former self.

Fremantle is BRITNEY SPEARS

Despite all the hype and the big tits, has never been any good.

Geelong is RAY CHARLES

Huge in the old days, this performer is experiencing an unexpected resurgence due to his portrayal in a premiership winning motion picture of his life.

Hawthorn are GUNS AND ROSES

Massive during the 80's, done jack shit since.

Kangaroos are ABBA

Huge in the 70's, experienced a revival in the 90's and rumoured to be a part of a Gold Coast musical. Mumma Mia!!

Melbourne is ELVIS

The King of the 50's has left the building. Rumoured sightings since 1977 are unsubstantiated.

Port is EMINEM

Proudly proclaiming his self importance, nobody seems to be listening anymore after laughable recent performances.

Richmond is LED ZEPPELIN

This dynamic combo of the late 60's that led the way in the 1970's has not been seen since 1980.

St Kilda is NANCY SINATRA

This one hit wonder of the 1960's remains a treasured relic of the league.

Sydney is BJORK

A stranger in their own land, this artist bobs up with massive sales and most of us can never figure out why.

West Coast is PUFF DADDY

The thing with the Bling that makes us all sing. The coolest dude on the planet as he'll no doubt tell you repeatedly. Never shoots, snorts or shouts.

Western Bulldogs is TENESSEE ERNIE FORD

Sixteen tons waddya get, another year older and our flag we forget. A 1950's popular culture jewel that gets dragged out every now and then to appease Nan and Pop.

regards,

REB

=D> Gold, REB
When I first saw the thread I thought my ex bunch of no-hopers would be Milli Vanilli
but you summed them up perfectly.
I played my brother's copy of 'These Boots Were Made For Walkin' ad nauseum
when he went to Vietnam and boutgh it for him on CD for his b'day some years back.
It's a pity that a record has given me more pleasure than that worthless club.
If one person does it, it's insanity. If millions do it, it's religion.
