As far as I am concerned the AFL was born when the first non-Melbourne team joined.
Prior to that the VFL existed on par with the WAFL and the SANFL, and records from that era are not AFL records but local Melbourne ones.

Even if they have won 1, its still not a proud record for the club who have 2 all up in the last 50 years or so. So i think most fans feel sorry for them and would be prepared to give them the 1990 flag as an AFL premiership

Essendon won 1st VFL flag in 1897.
Collingwood won VFA flag in 1896 then a month later,six clubs offically broke away
to form the VFL.

Exactly. The AFL started in 1897, was called the VFL then, but it is the same comp. Like it or not, we joined their comp.

Dead Right if the new Adelaide Football club joined some newly formed league why did they pay to do so ? Its the same competition pure and simple.
