I've been to many State of Origin games and the reason why they were great at the time was because during the 1980's and early '90's clubs made their best players available. After a while this began to be not the case and in the end State of origin failed because of this and the fact that the majority of Victorian football fans couldn't give a rats ar5e about State football and playing against WA was a snore fest of the highest order. No, State of origin is as dead as a dodo and the sooner you work this one out the better.

Rik E Boy -

Yes State of Origin is dead and that gets up my gate plenty - I guess you enjoy the International rules then. But a one off at the right time would be fantastic. The AFL has a couple of years to sort it out so I emplore them to do it.

As you go on I see more and more that you are very narrowed minded and the only thing you can see is that no one outside of your world can have an opinion. Your opinion of football and its values are far different to mine and I am thankful for that.
You keep livin in your own little football world and keep amuzing me with your one minded views that when some one challenges you get all sooky sooky lala.

Football is a game for every one - not just you

Who said you couldn't have opinion? I am only stating my opinion so you are contradicting yourself. You don't agree with what I said so then you post 'Hands off your c**k and I'm the narrow minded one?? Thanks for telling me that football is not just for me..where would I be without your profound input? Andy D has thrown you a bone and you have swallowed it and I can't say that I am surprised.

F: Lloyd Gehrig Hall

HF: N. Brown J. Brown B. Harvey

C: Power West Goodes

HB: Hodge McPhee Gilbee

B: C. Johnson Scarlett Fletcher

R: Everitt Ball Judd

Inter: Tarrant Bruce B. Johnson J White Mitchell Ling

That is what I would choose. Obviously there are so many options available and wealth of good players, that it is virtually impossible.

Nah Blueboy, International rules doesn't thrill me at all. I tell you why.

1. Round Ball
2. Goalkeepers
3. Overs, Unders wtf
4. Lack of physicality

I like Football and to me club based football is footy in it's finest form. The best players play AFL but the style of football currently played in the VFL, SANFL and WAFL is probably the type of game I grew up with. The reason I wrote that State of origin is dead and the sooner you accept this is because it is my honest opinion that Andy D used the entire concept as a throwaway line to win brownie points with SA footy fans. I am a firm believer that the CEO of the AFL does not say anything that hasn't been carefully thought through beforehand, especially after his last spontaneous comment about Sydney showed him up for the goose he is. I reckon he is teasing you mate and that State of origin won't be back because the clubs would spew.

Cheers,

REB

ps - I reckon that football should and will go international one day but the international series' only contribution to this end result would be to raise the profile of our sport in Ireland. FWIW, I reckon the fact that Irish players and Essendon's expermination with the Japanese lad would do more to make our sport an international code.

Glad to hear about the non thrill on the international rules. It does not show our off game and its best players and there capabilities at all. It just shows blokes can run to me any way.

Falcon Chick wrote:Thats why state of origin should be played as a separte comp/ carnival pre-season. That way the best of the best get match practice by representing their state, and the up and comers will get more of a chance to prove themselves in the nab cup. The benefits are two-fold.

It's like the clubs are saying "if you're gonna get hurt, you can do it playing for our club."..whats the bloody difference??

But alas with the growth of the "NATIONAL" competition, where "technically" we see state v state almost each week, in a real world you wouldn't expect to see state of origin back any time soon..shame that...

Just as the AFL is really the VFL with several "interstate" teams added, the same can be said for the NRL in that it's really a glorified and expanded NSWRL competition.

Yet Rugby League has done a splendid job in promoting State of Origin, to the degree it's recognised as THE pinnacle of that code.

FWIW, no club, nor their supporters want to risk their star players in what is. essentially, a meaningless fixture.

Besides, as it is, SA is the National Champion.

And always will be!

Believe it or not, State of origin in League might be in trouble as well. There aren't too many Alfies, Genos, King Wallys and Mal Meningas in the current cane toad squads these days and without those gun players the Blues are really racking them up.

Have to say I was disappointed with the Moo Moo final because that was the first thing Qld won since I've been up here and I've been having a lot of fun at the locals' expense..er, that's when I can find any LOL.
