FORMER Adelaide Crows captain Mark Ricciuto faces a police investigation over a brawl in the city early yesterday.
Two men, who did not want to be identified, have alleged that Ricciuto stood by while a group of men assaulted them.
The men were treated at the Royal Adelaide Hospital yesterday for concussion and minor injuries, including split lips and bruising.
But last night, Ricciuto denied that he was directly involved in the incident or had any association with any party involved.
His manager, Justin Reid, told The Advertiser Ricciuto was out with his fiancee, Sarah Delahunt, celebrating a friend's 40th birthday and they were on their way home when the incident occurred on Rundle St.
"In no way was Mark verbally or physically involved in the incident and he has no association with any party involved," he said.
"At no stage did Mark call out anyone's name during the incident and he is happy to assist police with any ongoing investigations."
The men claim they were assaulted after they passed Ricciuto and a group of up to eight other men on Rundle St about 5.15am yesterday.
"We just said hello as we were walking past," one of the men said.
The men claim Ricciuto insulted them before several men who were with him held the pair and hit them as he stood and watched.
"We had been drinking but we honestly didn't provoke him. All we said was hello, then they just went for it and I just about p....d my pants," one of the men alleged.
One of the men says he had a tooth filling dislodged during the alleged assault. Adelaide police confirmed they were called to the scene early yesterday but Ricciuto and the group of men had left.
Investigations were continuing."
